at IIM Amritsar, Amritsar

IIM Amritsar inducts candidates for the MBA programme based on a valid score in CAT exam. Candidates should prepare well for the CAT exam as only those students whose CAT percentile is above the closing rank mentioned in the cut-off list published by IIM Amritsar will be shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) round. Candidates who qualify for the Personal Interview (PI) round will be required to report to the admission cell at IIM Amritsar for document verification and fee payment for completing the admission process.

To apply for the CAT exam, candidates are required to create an account, fill the CAT registration form and pay the exam application fee. The CAT form have to be submitted by deadline after which no application will be accepted. The exam is usually conducted in November. Students are required to appear for the CAT exam in Computer Based Testing mode at allotted test centres. CAT exam for IIM Amritsar admission is held in three slots. 

Morning slot: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM

Afternoon slot: 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM

Evening slot: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

For admission to MBA (or PGP) 2024 batch at IIM Amritsar, the CAT test was conducted on November 26, 2023. Aspirants of IIM Amritsar were required to appear for the exam in Computer Based Testing mode at the allotted test centres. CAT exam 2023 was held in three slots:

Morning slot: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM

Afternoon slot: 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM

Evening slot: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Earlier, the CAT exam used to be of 180 minutes with 100 questions but in 2020, both exam duration and number of questions were reduced due to COVID-19 pandemic. From CAT 2022 onwards, the total number of questions stands at 66 as part of CAT pattern.

The highest package for MBA and MSDSM courses was 25.86 LPA and 28 LPA during placements 2025. The top 20% median package for these two courses was 18 LPA and 15 LPA. 

Earlier, during 2024 placements, the overall the highest package offered was INR 58.52 LPA. Further, the average package and median package for top quartile stood at INR 19.73 LPA and INR 18.01 LPA, respectively. 

The average and median package offered during the campus placement of IIM Amritsar for the year is INR 16.51 LPA and INR 16 LPA, respectively. Given below is the placement details for the MBA programme for the year 2022 and 2023.

IIM Amritsar is better in some ways whereas IIM Visakhapatnam is better in other ways. Hence, it depends on students what forms their foremost preference. 

The number of companies that visited the institute campus over the past three years indicates an improving trend. The count of recruiters increased from 88 in 2021 to over 110 in 2022.
