IIM Amritsar inducts candidates for the MBA programme based on a valid score in CAT exam. Candidates should prepare well for the CAT exam as only those students whose CAT percentile is above the closing rank mentioned in the cut-off list published by IIM Amritsar will be shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) round. Candidates who qualify for the Personal Interview (PI) round will be required to report to the admission cell at IIM Amritsar for document verification and fee payment for completing the admission process.

To apply for the CAT exam, candidates are required to create an account, fill the CAT registration form and pay the exam application fee. The CAT form have to be submitted by deadline after which no application will be accepted. The exam is usually conducted in November. Students are required to appear for the CAT exam in Computer Based Testing mode at allotted test centres. CAT exam for IIM Amritsar admission is held in three slots. 

Morning slot: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM

Afternoon slot: 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM

Evening slot: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

For admission to MBA (or PGP) 2024 batch at IIM Amritsar, the CAT test was conducted on November 26, 2023. Aspirants of IIM Amritsar were required to appear for the exam in Computer Based Testing mode at the allotted test centres. CAT exam 2023 was held in three slots:

Morning slot: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM

Afternoon slot: 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM

Evening slot: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Earlier, the CAT exam used to be of 180 minutes with 100 questions but in 2020, both exam duration and number of questions were reduced due to COVID-19 pandemic. From CAT 2022 onwards, the total number of questions stands at 66 as part of CAT pattern.

IIM Amritsar is one of the reputed and ranked IIMs offering MBA programme. In 2024 NIRF Ranking, IIM Amritsar was ranked at 47 under the 'Management' Category. The rank saw an improvement as it was 51 in 2023. Besides ranking, the institute is also know for placement. MBA students in the final year can participate in the placement drive. The institute has released the final placement report for the MBA 2022-24 batch. Over 250 recruiters participated, including more than 120 new recruiters. The highest domestic and international packages stood at INR 28 LPA and INR 58.52 LPA, respectively.
