IIT Ropar Infrastructure: Campus Facilities, Hostels, Library ,

Spread over 525 acres of lush green land, IIT Ropar has a huge campus, nestled in the serene embrace of Punjab’s Rupnagar by the banks of the Satluj River. IIT Ropar infrastructure features academic, residential, sports, training, career development, transportation, and healthcare facilities.The institute's building has three independent blocks connected via skywalks. IIT Ropar provides well-furnished hostels to the students. The institute housed a library building, a data centre, boys' and girls' hostels and Kendriya Vidyalaya. It has a separate medical centre that has a dedicated team of medical and paramedical staff. Students requiring immediate yet basic medical attention can be directed to the medical centre. IIT Ropar Campus Highlights 

IIT Ropar campus has all the modern infrastructure. It has multiple departments, seminar halls, an auditorium, etc. The auditorium has spacious interiors with modern technology to host seminars, lectures, and cultural events. Other than the academic resources, the campus also has a utility block and a student activity centre that provides rooms and equipment for various clubs and related activities. The campus also has a huge sports complex catering to the holistic development of the students. It has plenty of sports grounds for outdoor games, such as cricket, football, hockey, etc. The institute also has the infrastructure for indoor games. It has state-of-the-art classrooms, equipped with modern teaching equipment to enhance the learning experience. The entire campus is wifi enabled. For security, IIT Ropar hostels are under 24/7 CCTV surveillance. It has 1 CAD/CAM laboratory with 16 workstations for the students. More details are below: 

IIT Ropar Hostel Facility 

The institute has eight hostels, six for boys (Satlej, Beas, Sindhu, Mercury, Jupiter, and Neptune) and two for girls (Ravi, Venus) to house approximately 3000 students. IIT Ropar is a residential institute; therefore, all the students are required to reside in the hostels. All the rooms are spacious and have basic furniture, such as a study table, chair, cupboard, single bed, etc. The rooms are allocated on a single and double occupancy basis. IIT Ropar hostels consist of dedicated rooms for recreational activities, providing a holistic environment for the students. It also has a common dining area for socialising with friends over food. All the hostels have water coolers and RO systems. Inside the hostel campus, there are four shops to supply the basic needs of the residents. IIT Ropar hostels are managed by a warden who is responsible for the smooth running and for maintaining the rules and regulations of the hostels. 

For providing healthy and hygienic food, it has a mess facility for the students. The IIT Ropar mess is very spacious with an air-conditioned dining room, a well-equipped kitchen, a cold storage room and a storage room. The mess offers multiple cuisines from different regions of the country to meet the needs of the mixed population residing in IIT Ropar hostels. Some of the other hostel facilities are as follows:

IIT Ropar Hostel Fees 

IIT Ropar hostel fees vary for different courses. In 2025, the semester-wise hostel fee for B.Sc. and B.Ed courses is INR 31500. This is valid for new admissions only. Details regarding the same are tabulated below:

IIT Ropar Library 

IIT Ropar's library, known as Nalanda Library, acts as a knowledge hub for academic and research purposes. It has a vast collection of books, journals, theses, etc. Apart from books of study and reading material prescribed for courses, the library has a collection of research monographs, reports, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, etc. The library facilitates access to over 13,000 electronic journals from 30 publishers through its participation in the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative by the Government of India. The library is well furnished with comfortable tables and chairs, which are suitable for long working hours. The IIT Ropar library is automated using the Koha Integrated Library Management System. The library is operational all seven days of the week except on a few national holidays. All library spaces are open from 08:00 am to 02:00 am, and Stack & Reading Area 2 is open from 02:00 am to 08:00 am. 

IIT Ropar Sports Facility

IIT Ropar has a cricket ground, football ground, hockey ground, badminton court, basketball court, and tennis court for outdoor activities. The institute also has an indoor facility for table tennis. The institute has a huge sports complex with plenty of sports options to encourage students to participate in indoor and outdoor sports activities. It also organises several sports festivals and events for the students. Sports and recreation activities are also available in the hostel blocks of IIT Ropar. It also has a well-equipped gymnasium to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Situated on the banks of the river Sutlej, IIT Ropar students have multiple options to explore, such as the Archaeological Museum, Virasat-e-Khalsa museum, the Bhakra Nangal Dam and Naina Devi Temple, among others. These are a few nearby places which students must visit during their free time.
