Two specialisations are offered by IIMC Aizawl in its postgraduate Diploma programmes. During the admissions process, the applicant's overall academic standing matters. Candidates must be enrolled in or have finished their bachelor's degree programme at an approved institution or university, or they must have passed their graduation test, in order to be eligible for admission to the PG Diploma programme at IIMC Aizawl. The results of the CUET PG exam are taken into account for admission at IIMC Aizawl.

IIMC is the Training Academy of Indian Information Service (IIS) Officers. In addition, the Institute successfully conducts a number of Post-graduate Diploma in Journalism Courses in English, Hindi, Radio & TV, Urdu, Odia, Marathi, Malayalam and Advertising & Public Relations, which enjoy high industry acceptance. As of now, IIMC Aizawl only offers two courses, namely Online PG Diploma in English Journalism. At present, the temporary campus is located inside the campus of Aizawl University. The new institute will be situated in approximately 8 acres after the construction of its permanent campus.
