Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) - Batch of 2022
4.2
Extremely pleased and satisfied with the overall student life I had in this college.
Placements: As a student belonging to Bachelor's of Arts course, I would say that my college has provided a satisfactory experience in the areas of academic and extracurricular activities. I belong to the 2022 batch, and the course which I had opted for B.A. Psychology is a 3 year course, comprising of 6 semesters. In the primary year of the course, students are provided with 6 subjects of their choice (Psychology/History, Sociology/Philosophy, Economics/Political Science, Hindi/Marathi, Foundation Course, Communication Skills). As per my preference I had chosen a combination of Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Hindi Communication Skills & Foundation Course. In the 2nd year of the course, the subjects Hindi/Marathi and community skills are discontinued. Replacing these 2 subjects, students get to learn another subject advertisement. During the 2nd year, students have to write 2 papers for each subject which they have opted for. In total they would be needed to attempt 8 papers during their sophomore period. In the final year of the course, students are provided with a specialisation in Psychology/ Economics/ Sociology. Those students who wish to specialize in Psychology, need to go through an entrance examination as there are only limited seats available. As per my experience, in my final year I had opted Psychology as my specialisation and was provided with 6 papers in each semester. As a matter of fact, students who are belonging to the Arts faculty do not receive any adequate placements or internships.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure faculty present in my college is top notch. My college is situated in the Somaiya, Vidyavihar Campus, which is one the biggest campuses in Mumbai. The environment and atmosphere here is just amazing. My college offers adequate amount of classrooms having a pleasant ambience, and it provides a decent library with an abundance of educational resources present. Along with this, it also offers a computer lab, auditorium, recreation rooms and Wi-Fi facility. As a part of the campus, we have got three canteens which have a decent quality of food available, and there's a provision of two hostels for students residence. Additionally we have got a huge amphitheatre for musical & cultural performances. Lastly the one thing which everyone admires is that this campus provides a humongous olympic size playing field with an athletic track, a volleyball turf, basketball and badminton courts, a cricket ground, a lawn tennis court, open table tennis courts and a students gymnasium. Overall the infrastructure facilities provided by my college and the inclusive campus is just outstanding.
Faculty: The faculty in my college is really wonderful. As per my course, I got the opportunity to have a really enriching academic experience. The professors here are well qualified and have a vast academic background along with a good teaching style. All the teachers are genuinely helpful to the students. They do take efforts to teach students and also conduct remedial lectures for those students who haven't got a satisfactory record. As per my preference, the course which I had selected is up to date with the current field scenario. The syllabus covers crucial and important aspects adequately, which eventually does prepare us for higher education and training. In my college there's a special examination committee which conducts exams per semester for all the students belonging to different courses. The exams are properly monitored. The semester exams are quite challenging and students need to have a thorough knowledge of their syllabus so as to clear the exams. The pass percentage set for the semester exams is 35%. Those who don't clear the exams are allowed to carry forward it to the next semester, until the final year approaches.

Our college is more than average. It has a good infrastructure, but improvements are still required.
Placements: Our course has a high percentage of females. The fee of the course is Rs. 10,000, which can be divided into two instalments, i.e., Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 4,000. Cognizant Technology is one of the companies which hires B.A graduates. B.A graduates can pursue a successful career as an HR manager, marketing, executive assistant/manager and many more roles.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are spacious here, but the Wi-Fi or internet is very slow or almost not available. The classrooms do not have any projector facility. There are two libraries. The library situated on the ground floor is huge but doesn't have any sitting facility. The library situated on the 4th floor is quite small and does not have room for group study. Canteens are huge with various food items. There is more than enough sitting place to eat as well as for study sessions. There is a drinking water facility. There's a field for almost every sport. Two basketball fields, one running track, football field and volleyball field are available.
Faculty: The teachers here are helpful, but their way of teaching, especially in psychology, is very slow. The teachers teach well except for two or three teachers. The teaching quality is really good, and the teachers help wherever they can. The course curriculum is quite relevant. It has examples of Indian culture and people, which is good. The exams are not much difficult if you've studied well. The pass percentage is 50%, which is easy to acquire with average efforts.

Learning is fun at Somaiya Arts College.
Placements: About 42% of the students got placed in placement drives in 2019 from our class. A massive job fest was held in April 2019 where companies and firms visited our college for placements. The highest salary offered was Rs. 38,500 for the role of managing supervisor by Tata Consultancy Services. The lowest salary offered was Rs. 12,000 per month, and the average salary offered was about Rs. 15,000-16,000 per month.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our campus is top-notch, and our college gives special attention to maintain environment-friendly things wherever possible. Wi-Fi facility is available 24x7 to help students to access online study materials and also to focus on E-learning and digital classes. The hostel facility is available with ample spacious rooms and canteen where high standards of hygiene are maintained in terms of food. Different sports facilities are available for students who are interested in them such as swimming pool, a basketball court, football ground, a race track and a separate building for indoor games such as table tennis, chess, etc. The library houses almost 20,000 books, novels and magazines which can help students to improve their academic skills.
Faculty: Overall, faculty members are amazing here, and they provide students with everything needed for their studies. They are well-qualified, and their high-quality teaching can fill the gap between economically disadvantage students to achieve something and more affluent peers. They are helpful both in a personal and professional level and impart lessons which students remember in their future. B.A course curriculum is updated as per the requirements of the modern standards to ensure that students gain skills when they are ready to do a job or apply their skills in the workplace.
Other: Events and extracurricular activities are truly organised for students by the students. You truly participate in teamwork and learn how to manage things.

It is an awesome college for students who want to study and interested in taking part in the events.
Placements: Our college provides good placements with very good salary packages as per the industry to every stream. Mostly the MNCs come for recruiting students. Placements start in starting of the third year of the degree. Even placements committee organises internal placements, which include small and startup companies.
Infrastructure: The college has a very positive environment because of infrastructure. The library is huge, and there are all types of books. Classrooms are designed in a way that you can listen to the teacher and see them without efforts. The college is the best for people who like sports. There are many facilities and advantages for sporty people.
Faculty: Teachers here are very supportive, friendly and helpful. They help students other than academic fields also, and they allow you to ask your doubts after the lectures. Teachers use mics for loud voice. There is one teacher for 50-60 students. Teachers teach with examples and other than syllabus if needed to understand.
Other: Our college organises many events in the year.

SK Somaiya college is a good college for studying.
Placements: Our batch was quite good, and a pleasant staff spread happiness. The security staff was very good during my time and the vice principal Brengeza is very frank, which makes the students share their problems with her. Good placement options are available at the end of your course.
Infrastructure: There was no Wi-Fi facility provided for students. Other facilities like classrooms, library, etc. were awesome and better than any college. The principal of college Sangeeta Kohli is a little rude, but that's okay, she is right in her place. Other things at college are perfectly fine and good.
Faculty: Teachers are very good knowledge wise. In fact, the vice principal herself takes lectures and teaches several subjects to the students. There are a few teachers who are very frank, and their method of teaching is too good, so the students grasp things easily.

Best Infrastructure and Facilities, Good Sports Opportunities and Lush Green Campus, Best in Class F
Placements: The College has a Placement Cell, which is one of a kind and provided students with good quality placements from all courses. Big companies to small startups all of companies have come in college to provide quality internships and placements to students during the course time and even to final year students. Around 183 Placements were placed in the year 2016 and more than 250 placements & internships placed in 2017. Companies like Tata Consultancy Services, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Stradver and many small and big startups have visited the Campus.
Infrastructure: College has a huge building of 7 floors with 4 operating lifts. A Free Wi-Fi is available all through the campus. A Computer Lab with more than 100 Computers on 4th Floor. Around 30 Classrooms with an average of 100 students capacity per classroom on 5th 6th and 7th Floors. Campus has a very good security with guards with bikes and cars moving round the campus 24/7. Particularly in S K Somaiya College of Arts Science and Commerce. There is a good security with 4 guards round the clock available. There is a Sports Room with facilities like Football, Cricket and Table Tennis Equipments and indoor sports like Carrom and Chess can be played there. Classrooms are high quality well furnished which were recently re-painted in March. College has own Canteen service with affordable quality food, from South Indian to Chat and even Mexican and Italian Food Available not to forget Chinese Food. Overall the Facilities of the College and Campus are very nice and are not seen anywhere else in Mumbai.
Faculty: Teachers are very well knowledge and qualified. Separate Teaching staff for separate Course. Each Course has a minimum of 4 Permanent Teachers and 2-3 Visiting faculty members who are also very highly qualified. There is personal touch in the teaching pattern with regular feedback directly taken by the Principal. And Every Month there's a Google Form passed which is intended to take a feedback on the college's teaching system. PowerPoint Presentations and Movies are shown to make the curriculum easy and understandable. Alot of Guest Lecturers visit during the Course with industry knowledge and impart it amongst the Students. The Course Curriculum adopted by the College was very much useful and it helped me personally to gain alot of knowledge.
Other: There are more than 7 College Fest and Departments in the college. With every course having its own Fest. College has a Rotaract Club which is very active and works for the extra curricular activities of the students. Similarly there's a NSS Club and Various Departments having various clubs like the Music Club and the Reader's Club. Campus has a very good crowd with good well behaved students and non teaching staff. College is well connected from Vidya vihar station and it hardly takes 2-3mins to walk also Ghatkopar Station is just 15mins away. College has its own Bus Stop and buses from Ghatkopar West, Vashi, and Chembur come to it. It is near Eastern Express Highway and is well connected to Harbourline stations like Tilak Nagar and Chembur. College Provided Free Scholarship to needy students under Somaiya SVV Scholarship and National Scholarship. Every year almost 3-5 Students avail these Scholarships. Surroundings of the College are lush green and the campus is full of trees.

Not at all satisfied with the faculty, average placements, good infrastructure and fests.
Placements: The placements in the college are not so good. Maximum 3-4 students got selected from our class who were toppers, with a package of just Rs. 15,000-20,000 per month. The companies that provided internships were actually event management companies. All the help required was taken from the placement cell of the college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is really good because it got renovated recently. I love the classrooms and the lobby. There are no mirrors in the washrooms. Sometimes the lifts don't work. The lectures are held in the lobby area sometimes. There are no proper classrooms. I hope it gets resolved soon.
Faculty: Some faculty is really helpful like the BAF, BFM, BMM, B.Com, and B.A faculty, but the faculty of B.Sc, CS is not that good. More than 30% of the students are failing. There is no special attention given to any student, which is too cruel. They are treating students very badly.
Other: There are many events held in our college. Especially Utkarsh, our cultural fest. The management work throughout the year and organises all the events from freshers to farewell part, and some social activities too.
