5 Tips to Crack TDV Entrance Exam

The Design Village (TDV) entrance exam for its undergraduate programmes is conducted in the first week of January and in the last week of April for its postgraduate programmes. Candidates are chosen on the basis of an entrance examination, a situation test and group discussion/interview conducted by TDV.

Below are 5 tips that will help aspiring candidates to prepare well for TDV entrance exam:

  1. Underlying attributes: Be conscious that rather than the answer to a subjective question, we are looking at the underlying attributes-courage/perseverance/compassion/awareness that empower you to respond to a question in the way you have. It is on these attributes that are built the manifestations of effective and responsible designers.
  2. World affairs: It has become almost mandatory to be aware of what is happening in the world around you; of issues plaguing the world, conflicts and the reasons for these, patterns of human behaviour, role of technology in human society, state of geopolitics, etc.
  3. Develop perspective: It is also important to have your own perspectives on matters of the world; to be able to justify your position and argue your case.
  4. Observation skill: Develop the habit of observing objects, gadgets, appliances, artefacts that you encounter on a daily basis. Look carefully at what functions they serve, how their forms are suited to functions, how people interface with them, what the components are, how the parts relate to the whole, etc. Also learn to look at these objects, not in isolation but in correlation to the surroundings in which they are placed.
  5. Optimised communication skill: Learn to communicate your ideas, opinions, creative endeavours, etc., through appropriate mediums-visual and written. Communication is about being precise and clear. The person you are communicating with must understand what it is that you are trying to say. Thus, written communication is not about great language skills and similarly, visual communication is not about artistic drawings.
