Jayant Gupta from Global Institute of Technology (GIT), Jaipur talks about how he selected his course and college. Read more on Shiksha.

One of the reasons I chose PCM in school was my brother and teachers. They were my guiding light. I wanted to pursue either engineering or commerce. However, my brother, teachers as well as my mother suggested to go for this field. Thus, I chose PCM and scored 81.33% in Class 12th.

Coming to how and why I chose this college. Jaipur is closer to my hometown (Alwar). I wanted to move out of Madhya Pradesh and Jaipur was the best location for both – my parents and me. Also, one of my elder brothers, who was studying in the same college and pursuing electrical engineering, suggested this college to me. I got admitted to the college based on my marks in Class 12th and JEE Mains.

During admissions, my brother was placed at an MNC with an average package of Rs. 6 lakhs. He has pursued IT. He inspired me to go for either CS or IT. At last, I chose CS after a round of discussion with my father.

College admissions

Admissions to my course and college was based on my Class 12th marks, JEE Mains score and REAP Counselling. I did not take any coaching classes for the same. Whatever marks I scored in JEE Mains was because of my hard work in Class 11th and Class 12th.

I tried for admissions at other colleges in Jaipur as well but could not get through because of two reasons: 1. Low marks in JEE Mains; 2. The tuition fee of some of the colleges was high and my father could not afford it. GIT was the best option for me.

Besides JEE Mains, I also took BITSAT, UPSEE etc.

College life

College life is awesome. I love spending time in college attending lectures, having fun with college mates, roaming around, bunking lectures etc. I do not have a favourite class that I like attending. But Mathematics class is one class I do not miss. I had taken part in many extracurricular activities such as various sports competitions, cultural fest like Rudrika, Samnway and many more.

If given a chance, I would love to help my friends and my juniors. I would also love to become head or head coordinator of any one tournament or any one event conducted by college.

College life has brought a lot of changes in me. Besides teaching me to stay humble, it helped me meet people of all kinds. One of the most important lessons that I learnt in college was to never leave your loved ones. Friendship is the most important thing in anybody’s life. Without this, it’s difficult to survive.
