I developed a fondness for the field of technology at a very young age : Nandini Gupta
It is rightly said that college is the best time of one’s life. My four years at The NorthCap University, Gurugram (NCU) were no different. Just like every other student, I started my college journey with the zeal and enthusiasm to learn and grow into a successful professional and an all-round individual. NCU provided me with just the right opportunities to find the unexplored qualities within myself.
I developed a fondness for the field of technology at a very young age. It started out as a curiosity to explore digital devices and later turned into a desire to pursue it as a professional career. When I joined The NorthCap University, Gurugram in 2014 to pursue Bachelors of Technology in Computer Science Engineering, it was beyond my imagination what the next four years of my life will hold. Apart from the excellent academic curriculum, I found myself presented with various opportunities to engage in co-curricular activities. These activities contributed greatly to my sense of self and individuality.
In addition to engaging in academics during my graduation, I was an active member of the student chapter of American Society for Quality (ASQ) at my university, where I was constantly participating and organizing various events. During my engagement with this endeavor, I was able to grab various positions in the different competitions that the society would organize. I was involved in organizing TedX events at my college, apart from being a regular member of organizing committees for a plethora of cultural/technical events held by the university student body. Engaging in such activities which require working in groups helped me understand the nuances of group dynamics. It also gave me the confidence to assume the responsibility of a leader as and when required and give direction to the collective effort while simultaneously honing and improving my communication skills.
Owing to my experience, I firmly believe that in today’s competitive times, personality development should be of utmost importance in every student’s life. With the changing times, organizations and corporates are looking for candidates with all-round personalities. College time is the best time when students can experiment, constantly reinvent and learn about themselves and develop skills beyond the knowledge of subjects. Brian Tracy said and I quote, “Personal development is a major time-saver. The better you become, the less time it takes you to achieve your goals.”
The best path to personal growth is to get involved with the school and college community. The professors, the friends, the professionals, there is a whole community of people willing to support us in our personal growth journey. The key is to reach out to people and make connections. In college, we're surrounded by a ton of brilliant people with a lot of ambition and passion. Being inspired by the passions of our peers is something unique to the college experience, and something that will stay with us long after we graduate. I consider myself privileged that I had the honor to be mentored by such seasoned professors who motivated me to learn and expand my horizons. I learned so much from my seniors and my classmates, and it has only enhanced my outlook and personality.
The faculty and alumni at NCU guided me through the years and especially during the whole placement process, helping me secure a job at a reputed technology firm. Even after graduation, I still have a strong support system at NCU to fall back on. And now that I will be starting my MS in the coming fall at a top-notch university in the USA, I give all the credit to my professors who went out of their way to extend every help they possibly could. I owe my success to the contributions of my alma mater and the school community I was engaged with. Overall, my undergraduate experience at NCU helped launch my career in the direction of my long term goals and equipped me with the knowledge and skills to lead a life with confidence and a positive attitude.
