The recent outbreak of coronavirus has forced the entire world to a standstill. This pandemic has caused severe damage to every sector whether it is economy, health, entertainment, education, sports and has robbed the daily wage workers of their earnings. Lockdown of schools and colleges due to this pandemic is greatly affecting the studies. In order to fight this, many schools and colleges have promoted remote learning to avoid study loss.

I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s in Computer Science from Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Mohali. In order to tackle the current situation, our college has also started online classes for the students to avoid such loss and cover the syllabus as per the AICTE curriculum. A separate timetable has been made for online lectures which ensure that every subject is covered as per the curriculum. According to the timetable, we are having one hour lecture for every subject. The lectures are being delivered on Zoom application and notes are available to us on Google classroom application.

Apart from these, we are also getting emails regarding the content and study material. Doubt sessions are also organized by the teachers for every subject. I must say these classes are very effective and help us to understand concepts easily and clear our doubts. The entire faculty is very cooperative and eager to help the students whenever required. We are also given assignments for every subject and we have to upload the soft copies of every assignment on the student portal of our college application. For every practical subject, we are also provided with the lab manuals and procedures to perform the practical.

Being a computer science student we didn't require any special equipment for the practical as we have to perform them via laptops or computers on specified software. So I think we have an edge over other stream students who require specified equipment for the practical. We are also working on our projects from home as we only require a laptop for that too and in case of any problem in projects, we can contact our faculty anytime.

Our college has a separate department for training and placement for the students under which we are given lectures on aptitude, coding and verbal skills. Online group discussions are organized for the students so that we can also prepare for the placements even from our homes. We are also provided with case studies and article writing which also covers the curriculum of training and placement program. We are also arranged with expert talks and alumni lectures in order to enhance our knowledge and clear our doubts regarding our projects and get the necessary guidelines for our future.

Apart from all these, our college has come forward with some quarantine fun competitions and activities for their students which includes Talent hunt, pannel discussion, creative quest, ludo, chess and some coding competitions too. So, I think our college is trying its level best to ensure the proper utilization of precious time as well as complete the syllabus as per university guidelines and we hope we can win this fight against corona by learning and working from home.
