The learnings I got back then help me become a better professional every day: Tanya Seth
For a 16-year-old commerce student who wasn’t top of her class in school and for whom Economics and B.Com weren’t the obvious options, Vedatya Institute (formerly known as IIMT) came as a blessing in disguise. And suddenly a mediocre student found her professional self. From not studying to spending hours in the library, from copying friends’ homework to being the first one to issue crucial library books for essay and article submissions, from being notorious for playing pranks to assisting professors in making class notes, from taking tuitions after school to coaching my peers on various subjects in college and from scoring average marks to earning merit-based scholarships in each semester, I discovered a new side of myself.
Suddenly I was doing well and loving it. It was fresh, new and felt amazing. In the last 11 years of my career, I have often got the feedback from my peers, superiors, and clients that I have a great work ethic, and I, very humbly, pride myself in that. Ensuring every deadline is met, ensuring every project is completed with the utmost level of quality and service is now second nature to me and that discipline, that work ethic, and that professionalism is what Vedatya (formerly IIMT) taught me. Not to mention the fact that one of my marketing professors gave me the amazing opportunity to have my name mentioned in a brand management book at that young age – a definite milestone in my professional life!
Small but crucial things such as respecting people’s time and never being late for a lecture, putting in my very best in everything, making presentations in front of scores of peers that helped boost my confidence and hustling day in and day out are some of the most prized lessons I took away from Vedatya (formerly IIMT).
At the age of 17, in my first year, I, a tomboy, was taught about how important presentation is, how you dress, how you walk, how you talk all play a role in who you become and how successful you are in life. And that’s exactly what I imbibed and follow till date. We usually don’t realize how much of a difference these soft skills make when it comes to closing a sale or a deal with a client or even cracking a crucial interview.
The fact that Vedatya (formerly IIMT) always focused on a mix of soft and hard skills is something I’ll always be thankful for. I didn’t realize it back then, but every professor, every teacher taught me something beautiful, and even though I haven’t stuck to Hotel Management and am now a hardcore marketing professional, the learnings I got back then help me become a consistently better professional every single day. Thanks to the strong backbone Vedatya Institute and all my professors have been for me, I hope to reach even greater heights professionally because I know even if all else fails, I’ll always have their blessings to move forward and reach greater heights.
