Open Universities have lots of pros. Open universities in India offer distance learning and online programmes. The public open universities in India can be categorised into two - central and state. For example, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a central open university and Nalanda Open University is state-run. Q:   Is a degree from IGNOU valid?

Yes, IGNOU is a trusted and accredited distance education university. It is a central university which was established by an ACT of parliament in 1985. Therefore, a distance education degree from IGNOU is equivalent to a degree granted by any recognised university in India. Also, the degree from IGNOU University is acceptable and valid overseas and in foreign countries with ease. The reason behind this is IGNOU is a recognised university under the UGC and is a governmental university too. Adding further, an IGNOU degree is approved by DEC and AICTE as well.
Q:   Is an IGNOU degree valid for UPSC?
A:
Yes, all IGNOU degrees are valid for any purpose, whether you are appearing for any entrance exams or employment exams. It has recognition at the national as well as international levels. IGNOU is a recognized university under the UGC and a government university. Adding further, an IGNOU degree is approved by the Distance Education Bureau (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as well. Additionally, IGNOU provides free UPSC CSE coaching to scheduled caste candidates at no cost. Yes, Indira Gandhi National Open University conducts its classes in its study centres, under the guidance of regional centres. However, IGNOU doesn't run any classes in the main campus. When a student registers for a course in IGNOU the student picks a Study Centre and a Regional Centre according to their choice. The books are obtained from the selected study centre. Also, IGNOU offers a facility called IGNOU Online' which gives its students an opportunity to study online for programmes and courses which are not available in the area where they live in.

Established in 1985, Indira Gandhi National Open University or IGNOU is the largest, most popular of all open universities currently operating in the country. At IGNOU, they offer more than 200 distance learning programmes in 27 Schools of Study (or streams). These programmes are supported by an easy online portal, an enormous network of 67 regional centres, more than 2500 learner support centres and 29 overseas partner institutions. Yes, this renowned open university is also providing distance learning in several other Asian countries. The most frequently chosen courses among IGNOU students are BA, MA, MBA and BEd. A:

Yes, IGNOU offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) course of three-year duration. Admission to the UG-level course is subject to fulfiment of the eligibility requirements. Apart from this, the open university also offers four-year BA (Hons) programmes across different specialisations. Some of the specialisations in which the honors course is offered are Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administrstion, and more.
