CUCAT 2026: The University of Calicut conducts the Calicut University Common Admissions Test or CUCAT once a year for admissions to their University Teaching Departments, affiliated colleges and University Self-Financing Centres. Aspirants must go through the CUCAT eligibility criteria before applying for the exam. Subsequently, successful applicants will be issued CUCAT admit cards, which are necessary to take the exam.

Note - Calicut University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) 2026 is expected to be conducted in May 2026 for admissions into PG and PG Integrated courses, MCA, BPEd, MSW, and BPES (Integrated), BPEd, MPEd, BPES (Integrated), MA Journalism and Mass Communication, MSW, MSc Health & Yoga Therapy, and MSc Forensic Science. The online application process for CUCET 2026 is likely to begin in March 2026. What is CUCAT?

CUCAT refers to the Calicut University Common Admission Test conducted by the Calicut University (University of Calicut) for admission to various Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) courses in different streams. The CUCAT is conducted offline, i.e., as a pen-and-paper test. Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of an objective nature are asked in the entrance exam. For some courses, descriptive or subjective questions are also asked in the CUCAT entrance exams. Once the CUCAT is conducted, the University of Calicut releases CUCAT merit lists for different courses. Candidates selected on the merit list for a particular course need to appear in the CUCAT counselling process conducted for the course and confirm their seats. CUCAT is conducted once a year.

CUCAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements for the various courses offered through CUCAT are provided in the table below.

BSc

The candidate should have done Class 12 from Kerala State Board or a recognised board in the Science stream and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate.

BA

The candidate should have done Class 12 from Kerala State Board or a recognised board in the Humanities stream and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate.

BA Theatre Arts/ BA Music

The candidate should have done Class 12 from Kerala State Board or a recognised board in any stream and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate.

BTech

The candidate should have done Class 12 from Kerala State Board or a recognised board in Science stream with Mathematics and Physics and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate.

BCom

The candidate should have done Class 12 from the Kerala State Board or a recognised board in the Commerce stream and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate.

BHM (Bachelor of Hotel Management)

The candidate should have done Class 12 from Kerala State Board or a recognised board in any stream and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate.

BPEd

The candidate should have done their Class 12 from Kerala State Board or any recognised board in any stream with Physical Education as a subject and should have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate.

MA English and Literature

Candidates must have a BA English Language & Literature/ BA English & History/ BA Functional English/ BA English with Islamic History or BA/ BSc (excluding alternative pattern) Degree with English as Common Course (Part I), of this Calicut University or an equivalent degree, with at least 45% aggregate marks or equivalent overall CGPA.

Integrated MA in English and Media Studies

Candidates who have passed the HSE of the Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Examination or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to the undergraduate section of Integrated Course in English and Media Studies.

MA History

Candidates can have any UG Degree (10+2+3 or more years pattern including Professional degrees), of this University or a recognised degree, with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent Overall CGPA.

MSc Biochemistry

Candidates need to have a B.Sc Biochemistry degree of this University or an equivalent/ recognised degree from other Universities/ Institutes (with Biochemistry as Core/ Main; with more than 40 credits for Biochemistry component), with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent overall CGPA.

MSc Clinical Psychology

Candidates who had passed BA/B.Sc Psychology of University of Calicut or equivalent with Psychology as the main subject of Part III.

MSc Geology

Those students who possess B.Sc Geology degree of University of Calicut or a B.Sc Degree with Geology Main/ Core recognized by this University, with any two of the complementary courses Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Remote Sensing & GIS, with a minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in Part III (Core and Complementary put together) are eligible for admission to this programme.

Note - Reserved category candidates (OBC/ OEC) get a relaxation of 5% on the minimum mark required for most courses, while SC/ ST candidates just need to pass.

CUCAT Application Form 2026

The university is likely to release the application form for CUCAT 2026 in May. Meanwhile, aspirants can check the steps to fill it out in the points listed below.

  • Visit the official admission website of the University of Calicut, https://admission.uoc.ac.in/ 
  • Register for CUCAT 2026 by entering your mobile number, generating a One-time Password (OTP), and filling out your basic details and qualification details. 
  • Make payment for the application online.
  • Fill out the CUCAT application form, select exam centre/centres, and upload a scanned copy of your passport-size photo and signature to complete the CUCAT application process.

CUCAT Admission Process 2026

There are several stages to the CUCAT selection and admission process. It begins with registering for the exam. Once students pass the exam and make it to the counselling stage, they are allotted seats to their desired courses at Calicut University. Different stages of the CUCAT admission process are explained below.

Step 1: Registration

The candidate will first have to visit the official website of the University of Calicut and will have to register themselves before applying online. The candidate will have to enter basic details such as their full name, phone number and email ID. By registering, a login ID and password will be created and will be used for all other purposes. Once a login ID and password have been created, proceed to apply for the course interested in.

Step 2: Fill Application Form

Once registered, the candidate will have to log in to apply online. The candidate will have to enter information such as personal and academic details, followed by uploading the images such as passport size photograph, Aadhar Card and signature according to the size and dimensions mentioned on the application form. Once the details are entered, the candidate will have to proceed to pay the application fee of Rs 480 (For General)/ Rs 115 (SC/ ST) via online mode, i.e. through State Bank Online Payment/ Payment Gateway or Akashya Centres and Friends Janasevana Kendram.

Step 3: Download Admit Card

On successfully applying online for the course interested in, the candidate will next have to download the Calicut University UG Entrance Exam admit card, which will be available online on the official website of the University of Calicut. The admit card is an important document which is required to be carried to the exam centre and to the counselling session. Without the admit card, candidates will not be allowed to appear for the entrance exam.

Step 4: Appear for Calicut University UG Entrance Exam

The candidate shall next appear for the Calicut University UG Entrance Exam which will be conducted in offline mode i.e. pen and paper test. Candidates are required to reach the exam centre an hour before the entrance exam is scheduled to be conducted. Check the Calicut University UG Entrance Exam pattern and marking scheme as well.

Step 5: Declaration of Results

After the entrance exam has been conducted successfully, the results will be released online in the form of a merit list. After the merit list has been released, the first, second and third allotment seats will be released through temporary admission and permanent admission, based on the mode selected while applying.

Step 6: Counselling

On making the merit list and the allotment lists, the candidate will have to visit the varsity to complete the admission process by submitting their documents and paying the first semester fees to secure admission to the course applied for.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of CUCAT exam?

The Calicut University UG Entrance Exam pattern is as such that students will be provided with OMR sheets and plain papers to write their answers. The duration of the entrance exam will be 2 hours. Candidates will have to write down their answers with a pen on the allotted answer sheets. The questions will be asked in both English and Malayalam.

Q:   What is the marking scheme for CUCAT exam?
A: 

The marking scheme for CUCAT exam is as such that questions vary for different courses. There is no fixed number of questions set per course. For BTech, the number of questions will be different from the number of questions asked in a BA Political Science question paper. There will be negative marking and 1/3 marks will be deducted. The total marks will be 100 marks.

Applicants can fill in their choice of exam centre cities while filling the CUCAT application forms. However, it must be noted that the venue, its address and other details will be available on the CUCAT admit card.

CUCAT Result 2026 will be declared by Calicut University at its official website, uoc.ac.in, once the exam is over. The CUCAT results will be available online as merit lists. No, the CUCAT syllabus is not the same for UG and PG courses. UG syllabus is based on Class 12 level, while PG syllabus is based on the relevant undergraduate subject.
