Create goals not for the sake of your wishes but for your dreams: Sagar Mulani

St. Xavier’s, Jaipur

Just like many other Indian boys, I did not expect myself to score exceptionally well in my secondary standard examinations. But somehow I did perform decently well, and was satisfied with my results. I was at that point of thought when I was curating new ideas within myself and was brainstorming to select the best field of study, and I do confess that I considered it to be a big deal. If there’s one thing I have learned throughout the journey, especially while selecting the field of my career, it is that decisiveness is one key factor that one should always try to carry with oneself so as to avoid deviating from the original goal.

I finally settled for Commerce with Fashion Studies because, one- I wanted to pursue a career in entrepreneurship, two- I was always interested in fashion and trends, three- scoring good marks in senior secondary examinations was indeed necessary. Therefore, I commenced my journey after my results were out; I was already taking tuitions for accountancy and economics. During the course of the next two years, one thing that I very much understood and maybe regretted a bit was that that when you are in standard XI, all the effort and extra attention you pay to study, though would always help you, but would also take away from you some special moments of friendship, adulthood and real enjoyment because in these years, you are amongst the best people you’ll ever find in life and these are probably your last moments with them. So, it is never a harm to bunk your tuition classes to have some extra fun and make some memories because when you enter the last year of school, you are very close to making a great impact on your career and aspirations. It is therefore asserted that you must pay attention to studies and become more inclined towards it in your final year in school.

Giving Boards is a process that everyone goes through, and believe me, it is a tiresome process, since you have to wait with patience, work hard with determination and then perform well with smartness. It is essential for you to score well in your class XII if you aspire for going to a college of your choice and live up your dreams, though it is not the end of your life if you don’t perform well. Humans are not machines; they are not designed to have accuracy of 100%, nor are they expected to deliver such extraordinary results. Creativity and talent often play a vital role in the career of an individual and it is indeed stupid to come up with examples, you know, about the richest man of the country amongst many others, who have set up a standard for others, yet probably did not meet the standards the system set for them.

So, once again, I was probably lucky enough or now I’ve understood that maybe my sentence framing skills were helping me, but in any case, I scored well- 87% to be precise. It was not a big deal and much hustle for me to get into the college of my choice. One thing I learned yet again, here, is that you should have a set of goals that you must not be easily willing to give up or quit. Make goals not for the sake of your wishes but for the sake of your dreams. You should be very strong to pursue your goals in life and stick to your decisions always. Regret is always the worst feeling that you may have in your life. Escape from taking the wrong steps and thus escape from these regrets.

It was a new phase of life. I was new to everything, and it was Jai Hind College of Mumbai- one of the greatest colleges of all times in the city of dreams. I was devastated, to all extents, and to the core. I was not at all ready to accept that I was not surrounded by my emotional circle. The emotional support from friends and family had descended upon me as emotional dependence, the lack of which made me quit within a week of admission and return back to the home town, Jaipur. I then took admission in St. Xavier’s, Jaipur, which is obviously unworthy of comparison with Jai Hind. The campus life, the college mates, the faculty- everything was degraded but I felt happy for the moment, because I was back into my emotional circle. Not for long, though. Soon enough, with events unfolding and me realizing the level of potential and opportunities that were there to my disposal in Mumbai, I was surrounded by dark regrets. And regrets drag you down; they don’t let you do things that you should be doing, which is why I didn’t attend the classes most times and at other times, I was just attending but was not present in the classes. Nevertheless, I had a keen interest in Economics, so I opted for Economics Hons. I am currently pursuing Economics Hons. and I’m also preparing for IIM. TIME is the institute that I would recommend if you are preparing for admission to IIM.

I have moved on and I am thankful to one thing I have learned in life- fears are always meant to be fought. Once you start getting afraid of something, fight it; never flee away from it. It was from my Mumbai’s experiences that I was introduced to the internship culture, which is prevailing amongst youngsters these days. I did it, did a lot of internships, and met a fine quality of people who helped me move on in life and do better things in life. Today, I live alone in Gurgaon, and am happy, even without any emotional support. I’m successfully working with a multimillion branding agency, having finally moved on, learning, and being dynamic. Life never stops; you just don’t have to quit. And in case you do quit, stand up, run again and decide that you won’t ever quit since it leaves you behind in the race.

I will soon be working hard day and night for getting through one of the major IIMs (A, B, C). Remember, life gives you chances that you must understand and make proper use of. Everything happens for a purpose, and these purposes are in control of our creators. Take things as they are when you can’t change them, and when you can change them, do change them right away, as you might not get the opportunity again.

St Xavier's is a great choice for B.A. (Hons.) in Economics.

Although not everyone gets placed if you really want a job, you will have ample job offers. So no stress about placements.

An INR 10 lakh package would be safe to quote a median.

Also, there are no 100% placements as a lot of grads go to scho
