My learnings as a fresher in IT industry: Vikash Kumar Singh
Hi Friends,
In this article, I am not going to focus on which course is good and which will offer good salary. This article is about how to start a career in Information Technology company as a fresher. It’s not my assumption or suggestion, it’s my experience.
Friends you must keep a few points in mind when starting off as a fresher in the IT industry. As a fresher you can’t choose your department or platform in the MNC like (Testing, Development, Maintenance, Support) so focus on the domain you like. In a multinational company, the expectation at fresher level is to have basic knowledge of Programming language.
These are the point which help you to get the job in MNC as a fresher.
1. Aptitude test practices
Aptitude test is the first step in to the IT industry. You should prepare well for the first step. For that, take help from online tutorial. There are a lot of websites where you can learn to improve aptitude. I will suggest IndiaBIX, from which I prepared during college.
2. Enhance communication skills
Effective communication skills is of a lot of importance if you want to impress the interviewer and showcase your talent. There are many ways to develop communication skills like
- Talk to your friends and lecturers in English
- Learn new words to complete your sentence in an effective way
- Read English newspapers and novels
3. Do Certification in your area of interest
Certification gives you the knowledge of technology and tools you will require on the job. Before choosing a certification, study the market to know which certification will have more scope in the future. You can also select certification area as per your interest zone. It will help a lot in your career growth.
4. Self Confidence at the time of interview
Your confidence comes from your skills and your knowledge. But I will suggest one thing. During the interview forget that the interviewer knows more than you. If you do this you will not feel nervous and will be able to give answers confidently. But don’t be try to fool the interviewer. If you don’t know the answer to a particular question, say No.
If you are fresher and you got an Internship in an MNC but you are tense that how you will convert it into a full time employment, I would like to share some points:
1. Show your talent
After getting the internship, it is time to show your talent on the job. So, focus on the work and try to take minimum time to complete your assignments.
2. Improve your presentation skill
Presentation skill is important to showcase your work and talent in front of other. Maintain notes, it will help you at the time of final Internship presentation to make the PPT.
3. Interact with other teams and employees
Internship is the time to earn and start your professional life so you should find opportunities to learn from your department as well as other departments. So, interact with different team and learn what they are doing and which technology they are using. This will help you in future.
4. Have regular meetings with your manager
Your manager is the only one who can help you in converting your internship in to full-time employment. Maintain a healthy buddy/mentor relationship with the manager. Discuss your work with your manager regularly, show your curiosity in new projects.
If your project gets over before time, utilize the remaining time in learning nee Programming Language or tools.
Hope this will help you in your professional journey. May success be with you, always…Wishing you good luck!
