Identifying and pursuing my interest: Ritesh Pathak
I completed my primary and secondary education from Foundation School, Buxar. After completing my tenth, I moved to Bikaner for my higher education from Delhi Public School. I passed my senior secondary examination in the year 2018.
Talking about my hobbies, I didn’t have a lot of things to do but cricket was my only interest. I wanted to join one of the cricket academies in Delhi but unfortunately couldn’t do so. But it didn’t affect my passion for cricket. In my school days, I used to be a studious child and loved solving mathematical problems. This was the major reason why I chose the PCM stream after I passed my secondary education. I was more or less a dummy student but I did take preparation classes for JEE – the goal was to get into one of the IITs in the country. I tried but did not get through. This disappointed my parents but I wasn’t disappointed because I took it as another opportunity to do something that pleased me.
After school, I knew one thing for sure. I didn’t want to become an engineer. But keeping my interests in mind–writing and politics—I decided to pursue mass communication.
It is a really interesting story about why I chose this field.
I had some options with me but I chose Delhi. Being the national capital, I believed that the city would provide me with a lot of opportunities. I was fortunate enough that I got a chance to live in this big city and pursue my higher studies in Mass Communication. I was a science student till class 12 but now I am studying Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication. The field requires a lot of effort particularly because you have to be aware of everything happening around. You should know about things from various fields and should be an “expert” in at least one field (politics, sports or entertainment).
When I looked up colleges, I found International Institute of Mass Media-IIMM Delhi and read about it on shiksha.com. I appeared in the entrance exam and fortunately cleared it.
The best thing about this place is that they don’t exaggerate about anything. The faculty and staff members working here are friendly and helpful. The institute is located in South Delhi and hence the surrounding culture is quite good. More importantly, it provides proper equipment for practice and equal opportunity to every single student. We have been provided with the exposure that a student at an initial stage should be given.
My experience with the course has been exciting and I have learned a lot of new things that have changed my perspective. I can also say that I have learned something valuable and have also developed some good habits.
And, look at me, here I am in the national capital chasing my dreams.
My experience till now with this institute has been quite good and positive and I look forward to more experiences in the future.
