What is APAAR ID?

The APAAR ID or Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) is a unique 12-digit identification number, launched under the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ initiative, as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Every student of India has his/her own APAAR ID. It is a digital academic identity that combines a student’s educational records, achievements, and certifications in a single platform. The APAAR ID card of a student is directly linked with their Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and DigiLocker. This makes it easier for them to access their academic data anytime, anywhere.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Is APAAR ID compulsory for CUET UG 2026?
A:

No, APAAR ID is not mandatory for CUET UG 2026. Candidates filling the CUET 2026 application form can simply select "No" in the dropdown if they do not have an APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry ID).

Q:   How do I know my APAAR ID for CUET UG 2025 registration?
A:

To find your APAAR ID, check the "Issued Documents" section of your DigiLocker account. If it is not there you can ask your school administration since many institutions are registering students as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

While the APAAR ID is not yet mandatory for CUET UG registration, it is encouraged for tracking academic records. Candidates who wish to generate their APAAR ID can apply for the same through their school.

Q:   If am appearing for multiple slots, will my CUET exam centre remain same for all exams?
A:

Candidates may be allotted different CUET 2026 exam centres for different dates and slots. However, the city would most likely be the same. Candidates must check the exam centre details carefully in the admit card and appear in the correct CUET centre. Candidates will be issued the CUET intimation slip three to four days prior to the day of examination. On release of the CUET intimation slip, candidates can know the exam centre allotted and can make the preparations for travel accordingly.

Candidates must note that different admit card and intimation slip will be issued for each exam. Candidates cannot re-use the admit card of previous slot or session.

Q:   How is CUET UG cut off calculated?
A:

The CUET UG cut off is determined by CUET participating universities seperately. Parameters on the basis of which CUET UG cut off is released are:

  • Total number of candidates that appeared for the CUET UG exam
  • The number of seats offered by the participating universities through CUET UG
  • The difficulty level of the CUET exam
  • Overall performance of the test takers (pass percentage/ score range, etc.)

CUET cut off is based on the percentile of the candidate. To calculate the CUET percentile following formula is applied:

100*Number of candidates appeared in the session with a raw score is equal to or less than a candidate/ total number of candidates appeared for CUET UG.

Is APAAR ID Mandatory for CUET UG 2026 Registration?

No, the APAAR ID is not compulsory for CUET 2026 registration. According to NTA, the APAAR ID has been introduced as part of the registration process, but students are not required to have one to complete their application. They can fill and submit their application form without mentioning their APAAR ID. Though having the ID is not compulsory for CUET UG, candidates are advised to apply for their APAAR ID as it serves as a digital academic record system that helps students to easily store and access their educational credentials.

How to apply for APAAR ID?

Candidates who wish to get an APAAR ID can apply for the same by following the process below:

Steps to apply for APAAR ID

Steps to apply for APAAR ID

  • To apply for APAAR ID, a student has to get their demographic details verified by the school via UDISE+. These details include name, date of birth, and admission details of the student.
  • If the age of a student is under 18 years, they have to get parental or guardian consent. For this, students have to submit the signed consent form to their school. Students must note that they cannot generate their APAAR ID without the consent form.
  • The school will now gather the students' details (such as admission number, date of birth, parents' names, etc.) and parental consent (if applicable) to authenticate their identity through their official records.
  • Once the authentication process is completed successfully, the system will generate a 12-digit APAAR ID. This unique number will act as the student's permanent academic identifier.
  • Once the APAAR ID is generated, it will automatically link to the student's DigiLocker account. Students can find their APAAR ID under the 'Issued Documents' section by logging in to their DigiLocker.

Note: Students can verify the status of their APAAR ID by checking their DigiLocker account. They can also request their school to confirm the ID through the UDISE+ Portal’s APAAR Module.

In such a situation, you have to prioritise which exam you want to appear for. You might have prepared for months for the exam. Based on your preparation, you have to decide which exam you can easily qualify for and get admission to the desired course and college.
