Mystory@Anish Choudhary: How I selected my course and college
Being from a stereotypical engineering background family, Science stream was a must for me to choose in my high school. But not only this, Mathematics being my strength coupled with my love for programming made me choose Science as my stream. But soon after realizing that Mathematics and Computer Science were not the only subjects in Science and the dreadful formulas of Chemistry and the unknown laws of Physics made me think about my future. And it was then that I turned to Mass Communication for giving a positive direction to my career.
Laws of Physics and Chemistry’s equations proved me right that I am not meant to be an engineer like my family members. The constant support of my family, friends and elders made me choose Mass Communication and pursue my dream course. I was a passionate photographer, I am a dedicated dramatist and I am willing to be a jubilant journalist. There were many things that made me choose my college. The college ranking, the faculty, the placement cell, the campus – everything was just up to my expectation and Delhi being a media hub was just an add-on to my choice.
How I prepared for college admission
Well the story starts like this. I came to know about IIMC (Indian institute of Mass Communication) so I gave a thought unlike IIT and NIT there must be some NIMC (National Institute of Mass Communication) and my guess was true. There was an NIMC located in New Friends Colony in Delhi. I applied for the online examination that consists of 5 current affairs questions requiring 1000 words answer. That looked easy but trust me explaining your answer in 1000 words needed great patience. Soon after completing the examination I had to wait for 2 months for results. Finally, one beautiful day I got to know that I was selected and on 21st May my telephonic interview was scheduled. That day I was on cloud 9. Soon after the interview I received a mail about being chosen to join NIMC. I blocked my seat by paying the admission fees.
Yes, for an average scoring guy one college was not his dream. I had kept few colleges as my back up such as Symbiosis, Manipal University, KIIT University and several more. Getting selected in all of them was just a dream come true but I guess God had planned NIMC for me since a long time, which resulted in my taking admission here. I don’t think anybody requires any coaching or tuition for an entry level examination in any college that offers mass communication courses. You just need to be aware of the daily happenings in the society and updated about the current affairs, which every budding media person is asked to be.
My college life: Classes, extra-curricular activities and more
The 11 to 5 time of my Monday to Friday college routine in my BJMC course is the best I have ever felt. Six hours of unlimited fun, entertainment, knowledge, friends and sarcasm has totally made my every single day interesting. The teachers, fellow classmates and the staff members everyone are among the best people I meet daily. You just can’t compare the classes because every class has its own charm, they are one of their own kind. You won’t feel bored as soon as you enter the class. You might feel bored after you leave.
When it comes to extra-curricular activities, NIMC provides you the best of tasks to bring out your passion. They have six societies namely Shutterbox (Photography), Audiots (Radio), Cinegram (Production house), Newseum (TV journalism), Dastak (Street theatre), and NIMC Diaries (Newspaper). So they keep you engaged with their in-house and sometimes outside projects, which not only increase your knowledge but give you an experience to work in the media industry. If given a chance I would love to work for the in-house production that is ITV production of my college, which requires some great skills and mind set.
My college has truly changed my perception of looking at the world. I thought college comprises of rude teachers, unfriendly seniors, and a principal who’s like Hitler. But my notion completed changed since the day I stepped into my college. The environment is so cool and positive that you hardly wish to go back home once you join this college. The group of people I hang out with have also played an important role in my existence in Delhi. Every single person is so helpful that you will love to work with them. You will find this a completely different world from what you have ever dreamt of. It’s a smaller building, but as they say “Never judge the book by its cover”.

Being a mass communication student I am supposed to be talkative and with the grace of God I am. I Love to start interaction with every person I meet in daily life.
