In a recent conversation with Shiksha, Abhishek Desai talks about his experience of GD & PI process for admission at Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai. He has talked about the questions asked by the panelists and also has a few tips for aspiring students.

Q. What were the GD topics at the time of your admission?

A.

My topic was - "Being a leading nutritionist, how would you promote healthy eating among kids who prefer junk food?"

Q. What were your focus areas during GD preparation?

A.

I paid attention to the content part. I backed up my points/statements with facts and figures, spoke with an assertive voice and tried to use positive body language.

Q. What methods did you use to prepare for your GD?

A.

I watched YouTube videos, sought the help of friends and mentors, and read GD-related articles on the Internet.

Q. Did you take any help (coaching centers/materials) to prepare for your GD? If yes, please share the details.

A.

Yes, I had attended a week's workshop on GD-PI preparation of MBA Paathshaala.

Q. How many participants were there?

A.

There were 8 participants.

Q. What were the questions asked in your PI?

A.

1. Tell us about yourself
2. About my job
3. Why do you want to pursue PGDM e-Business from Welingkar?
4. Future scope of e-Business
5. Hobbies
6. Current relevance of e-Business
7. My preferred MBA specialization and why did I choose the same?

Q. How did you prepare for your PI?

A.

I made a list of all probable questions and wrote answers besides. I rehearsed the answers without actually sounding well-rehearsed.

Q. What strategies (books/reference materials/coaching) did you apply for preparation of PI?

A.

I took help of the aforementioned workshop by giving 3-4 mock interviews, as well as watched videos on how to give interviews and read articles on the internet. The answers were kept crisp and to the point.

Q. How was your overall GD & PI experience?

A.

Good! Both the rounds lasted about 30 minutes in total. The panelists conducted them really well.

Q. What tips would you give to the aspirants appearing for GD & PI?

A.

Stay confident. Consider it as an interaction between you and some unknown people who are there to select you rather than reject you. Never fake anything; it's okay if one doesn't know the answer to a question. Don't get stressed in any condition. Know your resume inside out.
