When I started studying for CAT 2017, never had I thought that I would be able to score a 97 percentile in CAT and a 98.99 percentile in XAT. I used to spend my days consciously reading the editorial pages of The Hindu to strengthen my vocabulary. For me, the ultimate goal was clearing the MBA entrance exams to the best of my ability, and that was all that I was thinking.
Having lived in a small city, I never let this fact come in the way of my dreams. While in the 7th semester of my under graduation, I had an idea that changed my life. A lot of my friends wanted to go for a 9-5 desk job after engineering but I had the thirst for more. I knew that that was the right time to take a step in the right direction. And hence, I enrolled myself for an MBA entrance exams coaching and started studying seriously for the same.
There were moments when I wished I had settled for a job. But those moments made my conviction stronger. I realized that it was not just about studying hard, it was about studying smart and studying the right content. With support from my family and friends, I was able to clear the exams with exceedingly good scores. But then came the hard part– which colleges to choose from.
I did not apply for a lot of colleges before taking my exams because I was skeptical about my final scores. However, when the results came out, I became more serious and started researching about the colleges that I could convert based on my percentile. I had an interview call from XLRI Jamshedpur for both BM and HR, IIM CAP, and NITIE Mumbai. After the CAT results were out, I started applying for the next set of colleges like Delhi School of Economics (DSE), Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad, and XIMB Bhubaneshwar. A lot of colleges reopen their form filling process after CAT results are out. So, I had the freedom to research about these colleges and take an informed decision.
On the account of good communication skills, I was able to convert Delhi School of Economics, XIMB Bhubaneshwar, IIM Udaipur, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, and IIM Bodh Gaya. When asked what made me choose IMT Ghaziabad, I said, "I always had an affinity towards marketing management and wanted to pursue the same. Out of all the options I had, IMT Ghaziabad was the one with a very positive reputation for marketing. So, half of my decision was already made when I compared the reviews of all these colleges based on their ranking in marketing management. IMT stood out, undoubtedly.”
Apart from the great reviews and ranking of IMT Ghaziabad for PGDM Marketing, what IMT is best known for is its huge alumni base. The alum connect was definitely one of my major concerns while choosing the college, and knowing that IMT had a plethora of alumni in almost all major industries definitely made my job easier. This is because I believed that MBA is all about making connections and having a good network. And who could help me better than my own IMT family?
However, marketing and alum connect were not the only things that helped me choose IMT Ghaziabad. While choosing the college I also focussed on exchange programs at various colleges as I wanted to take a semester abroad. The International Relations Committee at IMT is one of the best in India. I found numerous testimonials that accounted for the great learning opportunities that IMT provides in partnership with good foreign colleges/universities. Another good thing about this college that I came across while I was doing my research was the student driven initiatives, like the committees that run inside the college. Each and every one of these, including the placement committee and the mess committee, are all run by the students and have a faculty mentor as a facilitator. Solving real-life problems and managing the supply chain and other operational issues make us industry ready, and this is exactly what I wanted out of my MBA career.
During my interview process, I had chosen IMT Nagpur as my interview location as it was nearest to my hometown, Bhopal. The process was smooth and carefree. Honestly, it was the best, I reminisced. The college infrastructure was huge, and each and every person involved in the interview process was friendly and helpful. All in all, I received very positive vibes from the college. I instantly wanted to visit the Ghaziabad campus and have a peek at its infrastructure and other facilities that it would later provide me. So, my wish of joining IMT Ghaziabad grew stronger. I was looking forward to joining it and luckily I received a joining letter very soon after that.
