Mystory@Animesh Wadhwa: How I selected my course and college
I was inclined towards business, and thus Commerce was a pre-decided choice of stream for me in my Class XI-XII. However, BCom (Hons.) from Gurughasidas Vishwavidayalaya was a not a pre-decided choice. It happened due to some good suggestions from few of my father’s friends. After that I moved to Hyderabad for post-graduation (PGDM).
PGDM college selection happened in an annual seminar of our coaching institute JCC in Bilaspur on January 11th, 2015, where almost 12 MBA colleges had put up their stalls for advertisement. At the event I met Dr Professor S. Zarar and the decision to join ICBM-School of Business Excellence, Hyderabad was made. Thereafter, I visited the college in February, appeared for the group discussion & personal interview round and got the registration done there for PGDM (Finance & Marketing).
PGDM classes started in the month of June. We were eight friends from the same place who joined together in the same college, so it was always like being at home with all of them. It was a wonderful journey thereafter for the next one and a half year with good support from the college faculty members. I also got the opportunity to be a part of Shiksha Campus Connect which helped me a lot in developing my skills, and finally I got placed in Bajaj Finserv at Nagpur location as an assistant manager sales in consumer durable finances.
How I prepared for college admission
For cracking admission into my college, I had to first appear for MBA entrance exams. Though one was enough but I appeared for both MAT and CMAT exams. Then I had to clear the group discussion and personal interview round conducted by the college itself. For preparation of the entrance exams I took coaching classes for nearly three months and not only did it help me clear these entrances tests but also helped me prepare for the interview rounds.
An annual conference conducted by the coaching institute provided an open platform for hundreds of students like me to get details of nearly twelve MBA institutes from different parts of the country by the management of the respective institutes. This was an immense help with PG college selection. It was a big decision to be made and I was very confused in the beginning, but after the seminar, I was pretty sure and there wasn’t any doubt in joining ICBM-SBE. It was because of my seniors and few friends who were studying in that very college. And the decision thereafter was final and it was the right decision made as far as my experience and learning are concerned.
My college life: Classes, extra-curricular activities and more
It was a very busy schedule in college from 9:15am to 5:00pm or sometimes it stretches till 6pm. It seems painful at times but all this is for the betterment of the students, to provide them what they have come for. So, it was always a busy day in college full of learning opportunities. The faculty members, seniors and the director were always available to support us even after the college hours. Though I attend all the classes but the one I liked the most was Investment & Portfolio Management. Despite it being the last class of the day, I loved to attend the same, and it was great the way the faculty taught this subject.
Apart from studies I have been attending seminars throughout the two-year course. I also made a paper presentation in the National conference on the topic ‘Japanese economy – the lost decade’, and I along with my friends organised the freshers party, farewell party, teachers’ day and the Independence day event in college. I’m also a part of Internshala’s student partner program 6.0 from my college.
If given a chance, the only thing that I would want to do is to go out on a tour with my college friends and the faculty members. It was the only thing we missed during our college days. The second thing was the inter-college sports activities. Though we had some of these facilities in our college but representing our college and doing something for it gives a completely different feeling and also a good learning experience.
My college experience changed me on certain parameters, for instance from being an introvert I became an extrovert. Practical learning and real life corporate experiences during internship made me much stronger, as the toughest time was the internship experience, but the support that I got from my faculty members helped me to take everything on a positive note as part of my learning graph.
