Mystory@H Hithanlal: How I chose my course and college
After my class 10th, like everyone else, I decided to further pursue my studies in Science stream. As they say, Science has a wider scope and good career opportunities. So, for my class 11th and 12th, I chose Biology and Mathematics as my core subjects. However, during the course I realised this was not my cup of tea. Though I had interest in Biology, I did not want to pursue a career in that field. But, after I completed 12th, I was in a dilemma as I did not want to take up engineering like everyone else had the tendency to do in those days. I wanted to do something different.
So instead of going for entrance exam coaching followed by engineering, I decided to take up Commerce, which was entirely new to me. I was not entirely confident about choosing this subject, but decided to take the chance. Fortunately, I did not have to face many hurdles during my BCom course. I was able to perform well and also took a liking to the course. I am currently specialised in Taxation Laws and Accounts. Furthermore, Taxation is one of my favourite subject. As a continuation of this, I am currently pursuing MBA in Finance in Christ University Institute of Management.
How I cracked college admission
During my BCom degree, I joined TIME as part of my preparation for MBA entrance exams. I was part of the weekend batch so that I could manage manage both the coaching as well as my degree course. The coaching provided at TIME was really interesting and useful during my entrance exams. I wrote MAT, CAT and CMAT. I got a decent score all the three exams and was eligible to apply in Christ University.
I got the following percentages in my entrance exams: MAT: 654.67 (85 percentile), CAT: 75 percentiles and CMAT :87
I had also applied to SCMS college in Kochi, Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies in Kochi, XIME in Bangalore. I had been to all these colleges for the admission process and was selected in all the colleges for the MBA course. It was a learning experience.
In Christ, there was a GD round, Micro presentation, Verbal assessment and Interview. Other colleges also had more or less the same selection rounds.
Out of all the colleges, I had heard more about Christ University and was not sure if I would get into it. I was aware that there is a very high competition and that the college receives a lot many applications every year. I was elated when I got selected here. Hence, I chose to pursue my MBA in Christ University.
What I gained from my college experience
College life in Christ University is amazing. The first thing that strike us as we enter Christ campus, is the beauty of this place. It is all so well maintained and clean. The facilities and security measures taken are commendable.
Coming to the curriculum, MBA, unlike other PG courses, is fully packed with assignments, projects and many other tasks. To top it all, we always have one or the other fest or co-curricular activities. Christ sure does teach us time management from the very beginning of the course. The more involved you are, the busier you will be.
I certainly do attend all the classes. We do not really have a choice in this matter. In Christ University, attendance is like your best buddy. If you lose it, you are in trouble. LOL!
When it comes to the subjects, I have more preference towards Marketing and Analytical subjects.
During this past 8 to 9 months, there has been many activities, fests and programs and it is nearly impossible to not be a part of these activities. During my MBA program, I have been a part of many such activities, ranging from sports to drama to other cultural activities. We get a lot of exposure to various fields and in turn developing our character as befitting a manager. I think Christ is the only college where we can find lots of fests and activities, one after the other. The best part is it is all well-organized and are organized by the students under the guidance of the faculty.
My main objective by pursuing this course is to get a good career in finance. I want to excel in this field with hard work, perseverance and dedication. I want to be successful in the corporate world in an environment of growth and excellence.
