Mystory@Keerthana Kothari: How I chose my course and college
Numbers excite me the most and I have chosen Commerce (M.E.C) as my stream after Class Xth and I am proud of my decision as I am doing what I like. If I would have taken Science as my subject, I am sure I would not have been happy and I would be just following the crowd. As per my decision, I did BCom from HRD degree college, affiliated to Osmania University. And I am currently doing my masters from ICBM-School of Business Excellence, Hyderabad. I have chosen ICBM-SBE for masters as it was suggested by one of my relatives. I am glad that I joined this college because of the pros mentioned below.
Faculty is the biggest asset of our college, they are friendly and caring. Management is strict and makes sure that we are disciplined. They are very particular about attendance and make sure we get the best study environment. The college has good infrastructure and supportive management.
Along with AICTE certification, our college has many other certifications. The college has affordable fee structure compared to other B-Schools. During campus placements, many reputed companies visit our college. Various corporate connects are held which help us in knowing the corporate world better. The college has Case based teaching. Many workshops are conducted by eminent personalities, which help us in gaining knowledge.
During the college interview, we were asked few questions around – Self Introduction, Career goals, Why MBA, and a few technical questions.
I did not take any coaching classes, I prepared for the entrance test myself. I read from one of the books available in the market.
I had applied to IBS but I did not join because I was not willing to stay in a hostel.
My college experience
PGDM curriculum consists of case studies which help us in improving our thinking process and solve real cases; most of the case studies are from real life. We get to know what is happening with real life examples. Time management is important for success in college life as well and here are some tips: Identify committed time, Identify personal time, Estimate study time and Revise your plan.
In our college, there are days we get two to three assignments per day by which we get used to managing things and submit work in time. Our college encourages us to do research, participate in fests conducted by other colleges as well. We celebrate Teachers day, Annual day, Fresher’s Day, farewell parties, etc. Our college hosts many international case conferences where we learn to handle different situations, managing events and so on. There is a playground where we can play cricket and badminton and there’s facility to play few indoor games like carom, chess inside the campus.
I have learnt a lot from my college experience. My way of thinking has changed so much that even after watching a movie I ask myself, what have I learnt from this movie. I have become more mature. I have changed from a student to a professional and become more serious towards my career. College life has helped me in setting proper career goals. I am able see things in a broader way. I am sure all these learnings will help me in climbing the ladder of success and achieving my career goals.
