MyStory@Mahima Yadav

I chose Commerce in Class 11 and 12 as I had no interest in Science and had inclination towards Management related subjects.

After completing my BBA from IIMT, Meerut; I decided to pursue MBA. While searching for a good MBA/PGDM institute I came to know about JIMS from my friend. I looked for more information about Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini on Shiksha.com and found quiet good reviews about the college’s infrastructure, crowd, faculty and placements. A gathered more information about JIMS and asked a friend of mine who was studying there. She told me that she had good experience with JIMS and the college is really good in all aspects. So this is how finalized JIMS for my PG. I chose PGDM-Retail Management because I was always interested in Retail & Marketing and wanted to make my career in Marketing. I the second year I will take Marketing as my second specialization.

How I cracked college admission

To secure admission in any PGDM/MBA programme you first need to crack entrance exam like CAT/MAT/XAT/ATMA/GMAT, so I gave MAT exam and scored 85 percentile. I did not take any coaching class for MAT and prepared on my own. To have a good score in these exams you need to be up to date with current affairs, GK and have a good command in English. There are many videos on YouTube that teach on “how to score good in these entrance exams”.

The admission process of JIMS includes applying online, and then facing GDPI round. Final selection is done on the basis of academic performance, CAT/MAT/CMAT/XAT/ATMA/GMAT score and GDPI performance.

The topic for my GD was “According to you who will win the Presidential Election in USA, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton? And why?” Then some students were shortlisted for the PI round and after 10-15 days I received my Selection Letter.

How my college life changed me

Our college starts at 9:30 in the morning and we have classes till 5:00 in the evening. We have four lectures in a day. The lecture that I like to attend is of “Managerial Communication” by Suneel Sir. The lectures include ways in which we can enhance our personality and attitude. Other than studies, I enjoy hanging out in the college canteen with friends and play carom and table tennis in the games room.

We have extra-curricular activities regularly organized by different clubs. If given a chance I would like to participate in more activities and attend lectures related to personality development so that I can be at my best during my placement.

Taking admission in JIMS, Rohini has been by far my best decision. All the time that I have spent in the college I have learnt a lot of things. I have learnt how to make formal presentations and learnt how to overcome stage fear which was one of my weakest point. I was not able to communicate well in front of the audience but after attending classes and with the constant support of teachers and the classmates I have finally overcome my fear of speaking in front the audience. This for sure has increased my confidence level and my personality as well. Now I am confident when I speak in front of the class and can convey what I want to say which was not easy for me earlier. My communication skills have also improved which is very important when you go for an interview because if you don’t have good communication skills you straightaway lose points in the process. So yes, improving my communication skills has really changed me as a person for good.
