ITM Business School helped me develop my various talents: Monika Umed Singh
Till I was in class X, I didn’t have any plan to take up Commerce stream in 10+2. But after 10th board exam, the time had arrived when I had to take a decision regarding my higher studies. I consulted my parents and they suggested I take up Science stream as most of the parents think that there are good options for Science students in future like doctor, engineer etc, as compared to Commerce students.
I did some R&D myself to figure out which stream to pursue. I founded that Science is quite boring. Physics, Chemistry, Biology were not cup of my tea as I was more interested in studying practical subject rather than bookish knowledge. So, finally I did what my heart said. I chose Commerce as my course of study in XI-XII and this was the best decision I took. Choosing Commerce helped me to grow and be at the right path.
After I completed Class XII with decent score, I knew I had good leadership skills. But I thought I could do better. I took advice from senior people who suggested that I do BMS (Bachelor in Management Studies). BMS basically consists of management course and includes subjects like foundation of human skills, business communication, principles of management etc. This course curriculum was the best to shape my career path.
Currently I’m doing PGDM in Marketing from ITM Business School, Kharghar. Choosing ITM, Navi Mumbai was the right decision as it helped me lot in improving my skills and updating my knowledge. It also helped me to showcase my talent through various events like Melange, Maverick, Business Chaupal etc.
How I chose my college
When I was working with Here Solutions, I decided to pursue MBA. To prepare for MBA entrance exam MH-CET, I decided to join IMS Classes for MH-CET weekend batch. I only focused on CET entrance exam because the colleges I was looking out I was eligible through CET. Also since MH-CET is relatively easier than CAT, and I was working too, so with job I decided to go for CET. The colleges I was looking were, Prin. LN Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, MET, Institute of Management, Bandra and ITM, Navi Mumbai. But when I figured out ITM, Navi Mumbai was most suitable for me, I decided I will join this college only.
I scored 87 percentile in MH-CET and I applied for ITM, Navi Mumbai. On the interview day, the schedule was packed with different sessions:
- Aptitude Test
- Group Discussion
- Interview
After all, three rounds I was selected and offered admission for PGDM-Marketing 17-19 Batch.
What I gained from college experience
I usually spend my time in college by attending lectures, workshops, summit, preparing for presentations and many more activities like reading books in library. I am a part of various clubs and events. I have been head coordinator of various events held in college. The Classes which I like to attend the most are, Managerial Communication-I, Marketing Management, Managing People and Organization, Career Management Entrepreneurship, Sales Management and Consumer Behavior.
I’m part of E-Cell member, Junior Placement coordinator, Course Coordinator and Head Co-ordinator of various events like Business Chaupal, ITM Run for fun, Maverick, Melange. If I would give a chance I would like to organize more events and more industry visits for the students that will help them to gain more knowledge and exposure.
College experience has changed me a lot in improving my communication skills by giving me ample opportunities of public speaking. Career management classes has helped in overall grooming and personality development.
Different guest lecture like business talk, brand summit, digital media sessions etc helped me to gain knowledge and stay updated with current market scenario. We also have mock PI and GD Sessions from II-Semester onwards which helps to prepare for our final placements.
I firmly believe that, “Unless you try to do something what you have already mastered, you will never grow”.
