Mystory@Muriki Sowmya: How I chose my course and college
I had a dream of becoming a doctor in Class 6, but by the time I reached Class 10, I realized that it’s just a fascination. Though I was inclined towards MPC and becoming an engineer, somewhere that fascination inside made me think about BIPC after 10th. But after analyzing all the things like which course suits me, what are the chances of getting and not getting a seat in future and after seeking people’s views and opinions, I came to a decision to take MPC (Math, Physics, Chemistry).
After completing BTech, I had three options – to go for MS in the US, to do MBA, or to do MTech. I was not interested in MTech, so I didn’t think about it much. My dad wanted me to go to US, but I was so nervous and homesick that I couldn’t even stay in a hostel in Hyderabad in my Intermediate and in BTech and had to return to my hometown and study there. So clearly, I couldn’t take the step to go to US. My intuition also opted for the second option and I searched all the job options available after MBA. So, I went for it and I am currently pursuing PGDM General at IPE, Hyderabad.
How I cracked college admission
Once I decided to pursue MBA, I went to T.I.M.E. Institute for coaching in MAT at Ameerpet (Hyderabad) for approximately two and half months. Early morning 6 to 8 were my class timings. Every weekend we used to have weekly test on the portion covered in that week. After coaching we had 3 to 4 mock tests and we were also given all India ranks (only T.I.M.E. students included).
I wrote MAT in September 2016 and after the MAT results were released, I started searching for the colleges I could get admission into and I found IPE ranked one in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. I chose this college because it has a beautiful campus and also got good positive reviews from seniors whoever I enquired about this college. So, I submitted the application form to this college along with the amount mentioned in the website as DD. We were given a date for group discussion and interview. I informed that date to T.I.M.E., accordingly T.I.M.E. conducted GD and mock interview. Interview experience helped me so much as I was given tips and tricks to crack the GD and on my areas of improvement in interview.
My college experience
I spent my college time attending classes regularly, though sometimes I need to bunk the classes when I want to participate in the contests or events which are within college timings. We are busy round the clock with some or the other case studies solving, assignments, internal test evaluation and externals. IPE is the most happening place and we can spend the time just by looking at the greenery. I have friends who are so lively, bouncing with energy all the time, so the time just passes quickly. I am a part of literary club and I contribute poems and I get to interact with other literary enthusiasts.
If given a chance I want to lead the literary club and I want to publish a book with the best poems of club members. I want to explore the library more and more.
My college has changed me in terms of discipline. I used to bunk college in BTech but now I don't. I learnt to balance between the regular classes and the extra-curricular activities. One or the other activity keeps me engaged throughout the day. I learnt that I have many competitors and in order to match them, I have to strengthen my communicational skills and general knowledge about political and social issues happening around the world.
