Mystory@Padma Akkapeddi: How I chose my course and college
I opted for MPC (Math, Physics, Chemistry) in Intermediate i.e. State Board of Andhra Pradesh for class XI & XII. I chose MPC because I enjoy it and if you genuinely enjoy the subject you’re studying, and you’ll probably also be better at it as you’ll engage more with the subject, produce better work and contribute more usefully to class discussions.
It also fit in perfectly with all my career aims because at that point of time I had two plans in my head, first, I was planning to do BTech and then do post-graduation in Computer Science. And second option was BCom with post-graduation in PGDM/MBA. Opting for MPC went well with both the plans.
How I cracked college admission
To enter a good B-School I chose to crack CAT, which is generally accepted by almost all the B-Schools in India. I joined TIME coaching institute for CAT coaching. The coaching was for 3 months. I attempted CAT, MAT and ATMA. Among all the colleges I got through, Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was the top and best choice. IPE accepts all the national level management aptitude test scores (CAT, MAT, GMAT, CMAT, ATMA, SNAP, NMAT, XAT, IBSAT) conducted for B School admissions. I entered my college through MAT. Finally, I could breathe a sigh of relief.
My college experience
Institute of Public Enterprise has got very good infrastructure with greenery all around. It’s got a very big campus spread across 35 acres with a lovely environment. It provides great exposure to different cultures and different people as IPE has a wide variety of students coming from different states of the country. Access to library, which has thousands of books and hundreds of journals and digital readings, even after college hours is a great opportunity to expand my knowledge. There are sports facilities like shuttle courts, table tennis tables, cricket grounds, football court and gym for fitness, along with other co-curricular activities.
College has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls in the campus itself with well-equipped rooms and good safety. The college timing is from morning 9.30 to evening 4.00. After college, I generally spend time playing games and reading books in the library. I go to the gym in the morning and we also have group discussion sessions every three days a week in the evenings after college hours, which helps me a lot with my communication skills. I gained knowledge in many aspects and I have been exposed to many cultures which helped me in learning more and socializing with people, and my communication skills improved a lot. There are many student clubs in my college like events club, marketing club, social club, food club, administrative club, etc. I am a part of sports club and finance club. We have daily club activities from 3.50pm to 4.30pm. I have learnt managerial skills from the club activities. I have changed from a normal person to an effective manager.
