My course is an answer to my dream of becoming a CEO: Pooja Nevewani

LN Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai

After Class 10, I was very clear that I wanted to take up Science as my stream. I chose Bifocal Computer Science due to my interest in computers. The vocational subject helped me develop more interest in programming and coding and so I opted for Computer Engineering.

Being a part of Entrepreneurship Cell of my engineering college, I developed an interest and acumen for managerial and business related tasks. I found my inclination towards it, which made me choose MBA as my post-graduation option. When I was looking for courses, I came across Welingkar’s PGDM E-Business programme. The curriculum of this programme made me opt for it as it had courses for some of the very important and industry required technical skills, along with the basic managerial subjects. Being from computer science background, I felt that this course would definitely help me leverage my overall profile. Also, as we all say, it’s the e-commerce age; every company now has a part of its business that is online. This programme, therefore, was a very futuristic course and an answer to my dream of being the CEO of one of the greatest industry giants today. So, I chose it.

How I cracked college admission

I gave several entrance exams like XAT, CAT, MAH CET, etc. as every MBA aspirant gives these exams to get into the top MBA colleges of the country, like the IIMs. I put excessive focus on MAH CET as I wanted to get into one of the top MBA colleges in Mumbai. I had joined MBA coaching classes for the same and prepared by giving several mock tests. I scored 97.01 percentile in MAH CET, which helped me get an interview call from Welingkar, Mumbai for its PGDM courses. I had put E-Business in my programme preference and was elated when I cleared the competitive GD/PI process and made it in one of the best B-schools of the country!

My college life: classes, extra-curricular activities and more

My college makes sure that we are always on our toes and doing our tasks on time and that too efficiently. I spend almost the entire day in college. Post lectures, I either discuss case studies for certain competitions with my teammates, do projects and assignments, prepare presentations or read in the library.

Interaction with seniors and peers from different backgrounds really adds a lot to your knowledge base.

I like to attend all of my classes as in every class and in every subject, there is always something new to learn. But as I am an aspiring marketer, my personal favorite is the Marketing session. We not only have classes related to our curriculum but also many guest speaker sessions wherein eminent industry people come to our college to address us. This is really very value-adding.

Currently, I am a member of the alumni committee of my college and I am actively participating in many competitions.

Also, if given a chance, I would be interested in working on certain live projects on marketing, attending some business forums and learning a lot.

The ongoing journey is making me even more responsible and aware of my potentials. It has opened many opportunities for me that I had never imagined I could get.
