Q: What is the process of a summer internship at your college?

A: Institute of Management Technology (IMT) does provide internship in different branches, including Finance, Operations, Analytics, HR and Sales (Marketing). The bare bone criteria for being eligible for the internship is 6 + CGPA in all the three trimesters.

The internship is required and is fixed as a part of the curriculum. It is meant to make students industry-ready. The duration is meant to be of four months and differs from 14 to 16 weeks as decided by the company. One needs to undergo certain rounds of the interview as a part of the selection process for the internship. It usually starts in March after the results of the third trimester.

Some people opt for the Students Exchange Program (SEP) in which they participate in different universities (selection processes).

Q: What are some of the key projects students work on during an internship?

A: It depends on the company what projects they have undertaken in that year and as to what project do they offer to an intern. My project in the internship was to bring in new business via digital marketing. Working in a startup, IESoft Technologies Pvt Ltd, I started with Eauyesny and SmartCrowd as their two new projects. Eauyesny, an online perfume company for US market and SmartCrowd a personalized dashboard for the people who are interested in investing in real estate. Beyond that, I was handling one more live projects of Handyman Bahrain. The projects were completely based on digital marketing, SEO, content writing, podcasts and campaign traffic management. The benefit during placement is that we come across different types of marketing strategies and how to handle clients/customers. It’s a glimpse of how the corporate world is and how it deals with customers and solve their issues on a daily basis.

Q: What are some of the off-campus placement opportunities available for IMTians?

A:  There were pool campus placement drives during placements. So generally, students from different B-schools used to come and attend the campus drives. There used to be certain events organized by the college which included the “The Placement Fair” in which company heads used to come to give seminars and take some sort of management-related quizzes just for management students. It mostly helped in placements as the people who participated in the event got to know more about the company, their projects and their orientation towards employees.

The placement cell used to make sure that good companies are coming for recruitment and are recruiting enough number of IMTians. The placement team recorded a good number of placements in marketing and so in Finance. The placement percentage was 91.7 percent in the year 2019.
