The MAT exam is one of the most sought-after MBA entrance exams for admissions to top B-schools of India. This year the exam will be conducted on February 16 by AIMA. With only a few days left for the exam to begin, you must have prepared the syllabus thoroughly with the help of mock tests and textbooks. It is now time to relax your mind and focus more on the revision of whatever you have studied. To help you overcome the last-minute stress caused by the exam and remove undue pressure, we have compiled a list of useful tips by some experts:

  1. Keep your documents in check: A day before the exam, take a print out of your admit card and carefully read the instructions written on it. Visit the centre one day before to see where the venue is and how much time it takes to reach there. Arrive at the test centre at least half an hour before the commencement time. Only carry your original id, admit card, and a ballpoint pen to the centre.
  2. Mocks to be taken: You can take one mock test two days before the exam and assess your performance. Taking new mock tests the day before the test is not advisable as it may put you under unnecessary pressure. However, it would help if you went through the mocks previously attempted by you so that you don’t repeat the same mistakes in the test and thus, avoid them.
  3. Plan what questions to attempt: The exam has a negative marking of 0.25 mark, so it’s wise to try only those questions first which you know the answer of. Do not bother attempting G.K. section first as the probability of getting the right answers is the lowest in this section. A score of 650-700 is considered suitable for meeting cut-off for which the ideal number of questions to be attempted correctly is 150-160.
  4. Avoid common mistakes committed during the exam: Sometimes, students spend too much of their time on one question and don’t attempt easier ones. The best way to overcome this is by skimming through each section once and attempting the questions you’re confident about. Students should also avoid any last-minute preparation of new topics before exams as it may clutter their minds.
  5. Learn how to maximise your score: You must have recognized your strong area till now by giving mock tests. To maximize your score, start by attempting questions from those sections. It would be best if you attempted memory-based sections like G.K. last. Attempt sections like L.R. and quant first. Another important thing is managing your time and not exceeding more than 10 minutes from the time you planned to give a section.
