Students’ Speak: Highest package offered & top recruiters for Welingkar 2019-20 final placements
The final placements for 2019-20 has begun at Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research. Abhishek Desai shares key details such as highest & average salary offered, top recruiters & sectors, types of questions asked during the placement interview rounds, etc.
The final placement season for 2019-2020 has already commenced at Welingkar, Mumbai campus. There are generally three phases: Phase 1 (September - October), Phase 2 (November - December), and Phase 3 (January - March). So far, about 90 companies have visited the campus and have already recruited over 300 students out of the total 670 who have shown interest in being a part of the placement processes, across various domains. Among these, IT, BFSI, FMCG, Banking, Consultancy and Financial Services are the most prominent domains.
This year, from my course i.e. PGDM e-Business, 38 students are already placed out of the total batch of 58 which is the highest across all full-time PGDM programs in the college. As traditionally has been the case, IT firms and banks have been the major recruiters for my batch this year as well. Some renowned recruiters include names such as Infosys, HDFC Bank, Deloitte USI, Accenture, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Cognizant, Capgemini, etc.
The average package bagged by students of PGDM e-Business so far has been roughly Rs 9.6 Lakh while the same is around Rs 9 Lakh for the other batches. The highest package offered so far has been Rs 15 Lakh and the lowest being Rs 6 Lakh. Several students across all the courses have already received PPOs (pre-placement offers) from various reputed companies such as Crisil, HP, Kantar Research, Nestle, etc.
Coming back to the questions asked during the interview process, they usually relate to different fields such as the summer internship, work experience (if applicable), MBA curriculum, projects undertaken in college and/or outside, etc. Even the conventional questions such as “Tell me about yourself”, “why MBA”, “mention the strengths and weaknesses”, “why did you apply for this company and role”, current affairs, implementations of classroom learnings acquired in real-life scenarios, etc. were asked to many candidates.
To answer these multi-faceted questions, one must be thorough with all the fundamentals of marketing and MBA terminologies and answer them in a crisp yet lucid manner. One should never ever fake anything while adding any details in the CV or while speaking at the time of interview since the interviewers (with years of experience interviewing students) will easily catch the bluffs and that can backfire big time.
One major challenge faced by many students (including me) is that the interview process of a company could comprise multiple rounds (for example, Aptitude Test, GD, Psychometric Test, Technical PI, PI with HR) which can easily consume an entire day. In such a scenario, a student has to give their best, irrespective of personal anxiety, fatigue, and the huge competition around. One must consistently stay at the top of the competition.
