University Interview Experiences in Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida
Apart from all the training and workshops, a student at JIMS, Noida can approach any faculty or staff member for any guidance or help.
Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida always displays an amazing placement performance, breaking the previous year’s records, in all parameters. This includes the package offered and getting offers from different domains and industries. As 70-80 per cent of the students during placements are freshers, they are given due training to prepare for the interview process.
Generally, an interview process includes an aptitude test, a GD (Group Discussion), and a final PI (Personal Interview). The number of interviews can be more than one depending upon the company’s recruitment structure. Before all that, the company demands resumes of the students who have applied for the said position. All the students who fit into the eligibility criteria proposed by the company, can apply for it and appear in the process. Though it is completely up to the student whether he wants to apply for it or not.
A student is eligible to appear for those profiles that fall into his specialisation domains. Before entering the final year of the PGDM program, all the students need to pick up two specialisations of their choice. All the profiles that fit into those two specialised domains are shown on the student’s placement portal. For example, if a student has taken Marketing & HR as two of his majors, then he can only sit for the drives that are either from the Marketing or HR domain.
TRAINING
Resume Building
The college train students right from the first process of an interview, which is the resume. For freshers as well as those with prior experience in the industry, workshops are held to help students build an attractive resume. Students are advised to keep their resumes updated in case there is an addition. Each of those resumes ae duly checked by the placement trainers and necessary corrections are made if required.
A student can also visit faculty members to discuss their resumes with them. Students can also go for multiple internships during summer break including one mandatory internship of 8-12 weeks. During the normal course of their curriculum, the students can go for online internships as well.
Aptitude Test
For improvising the aptitude writing abilities, the college first conducts a test to check the level where an average student stands and as per demand, necessary workshops are conducted. The mentors are called from outside, generally from prominent coaching centres for preparations, so that students can learn from the bests. These workshops are planned in slots keeping in mind the timetable so that it does not clash with the routine classes.
Group Discussions
Mock group discussions are conducted by trainers with the students divided into groups. The topics and news articles that could be a good fit for a group discussion are shared with the students from time to time. The students are also taught about the dos and don’ts of the GD. For example, what should be the tone, approach and body language while putting your points. Students are encouraged to put forward their points and support their opinions. These mocks sessions help the students to open up and learn about different topics as well. An ideal GD group comprises 6-8 students and lasts for 10-20 minutes.
GDs are mostly part of companies conducting placement drives for sales profiles. As this brings out the convincing skills, interpersonal and analytical skills of a person.
Personal Interview
The last and final stage of a recruitment drive is the personal interview. Some companies have two or three levels of interviews. Students get guidance for the preparation of the PIs as well. This includes the topics one should prepare in general, which is common in all the interview processes irrespective of what the profile is and the domain-specific questions.
The trainer does help the students with templates that include sample questions that fit the profile of the students as per his resume. Students are encouraged to avoid cliched answers to leave a better impression on the interviewer.
Apart from all the training and workshops, a student can approach any faculty or staff member for any guidance or help.
