CBSE Board Tightens Cheating Norms

CBSE Board Exam 2026: Central Board of Secondary Education has tightened its rules against use of unfair means in CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams 2026. This new policy closes a loophole that earlier allowed students caught cheating in one subject to pass by replacing that subject’s marks with scores from a sixth or seventh subject.

As per CBSE 2025 main exams, nearly 30 to 40% of students booked under unfair means (UFM) in Category One were declared pass by using additional subject replacement policy. Despite having one subject result cancelled, these students were able to meet the CBSE overall passing criteria through optional subjects.

It has been stated in CBSE meeting that, "As per the UFM record of main examinations 2025, it has been observed that 30%-40% of the candidates placed under category one were declared pass through the policy of replacing the 6th/7th subject, opted by the candidate and the result was not affected even after being booked under UFM."
