The proposal includes immediate installation of 2,446 smart blackboards in 75 government schools under the “CM Shri School” scheme.

The Delhi Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has sanctioned a ₹900 crore package to modernise government school infrastructure across the city. The ambitious plan aims to equip over 21,000 classrooms with smart boards and digital learning tools by 2029-30, marking a significant push toward technology-enabled education in Delhi’s public school system.

The proposal includes immediate installation of 2,446 smart blackboards in 75 government schools under the “CM Shri School” scheme. This marks the first major rollout of digital infrastructure under the new BJP-led government in Delhi. The project will be executed by the Public Works Department and will include additional construction of smart classrooms, teacher training in digital tools, and integration of ICT-based learning aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said that while the previous government managed to install only 799 smart boards between 2014 and 2024—primarily through CSR funds—the current government has set a five-year target of transforming 21,412 classrooms into fully functional smart classrooms. He added that these upgrades will be prioritised in underserved areas like Najafgarh, Narela, Seemapuri, Mahavir Enclave, and Kirari.

According to official data, Delhi has over 37,000 government classrooms, but until now, only about 2 percent had been digitised. With this ₹900 crore push, the government plans to bring more than half of all classrooms under the smart learning framework. The initiative is seen as a landmark step toward bridging the digital divide in education and offering equitable access to modern resources to students from low-income backgrounds.

This policy move also reflects a major shift in Delhi's education priorities under Rekha Gupta’s leadership, who took charge as Chief Minister in February 2025 following the BJP’s victory in the Assembly elections. The rollout of smart classrooms is expected to begin in phases starting this academic year, with tenders already floated for the initial batch of schools.
