Delhi Govt Approves ₹900 Crore Smart Classroom Plan Under CM Rekha Gupta
Proposal includes immediate installation of 2,446 smart blackboards in 75 government schools under “CM Shri School” scheme.
Delhi Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has sanctioned a ₹900 crore package to modernise government school infrastructure across city. This plan will modernise more than 21,000 classrooms with smart boards and digital learning tools by 2029-30.
Cabinet proposal includes immediate installation of 2,446 smart blackboards in 75 government schools under the “CM Shri School” scheme. This marks first major rollout of digital infrastructure under new BJP-led government in Delhi.
Education Minister Ashish Sood said that while previous government managed to install only 799 smart boards between 2014 and 2024, primarily through CSR funds, current government has set a five-year target of transforming 21,412 classrooms into fully functional smart classrooms. He added that these upgrades will be prioritised in underserved areas like Najafgarh, Narela, Seemapuri, Mahavir Enclave, and Kirari.
According to official data, Delhi has over 37,000 government classrooms, but until now, only about 2 percent had been digitised. With this ₹900 crore push, government plans to bring more than half of all classrooms under smart learning framework.
