If accepted, this will be the first ever entrance test by Maharashtra govt for admission to Class 11. However, the final decision is yet to be taken.
In an online survey conducted by the Maharashtra Education Department, majority of respondents prefer a common entrance test (CET) for Class 11 admissions.
Data shared by a senior education official shows that just over 65 percent of respondents agree to the board’s proposal for conducting an entrance test, a first ever to be conducted by the state for admission to Class 11.
However, the final decision will be taken later after the officials discuss the findings with the education minister Varsha Gaikwad.
Earlier, Maharashtra Education Board had decided to cancel the Mah SSC exams 2021 in the wake of rising pandemic situation in the state.
The Board officials have been debating between internally allotted marks as the criteria for junior college admissions and a separate CET. An online form was sent to school principals and through them to students to take their feedback.
The proposal is to conduct a 100 mark MCQ-type CET, which will be open to all students, regardless of the board from which they completed their Class 10.
So far, over 2 lakh Class 10th students 2020-21 have submitted their online feedback about CET. “Submission of online forms will continue till midnight of May 11, so let’s wait till then,” said a senior education department official.
A second online survey form has been circulated specifically for state board school principals in which their feedback regarding the internal assessment of Mah SSC students has been sought. Over 14,000 schools have so far submitted their feedback.
