AICTE Launches Second Edition of AICTE-VAANI

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched the second edition of its initiative, AICTE-VAANI (Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages), to enhance the promotion of Indian languages in technical education. AICTE Chairman, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, officially inaugurated the scheme, unveiling the scheme document and a dedicated online portal to support its implementation.

AICTE-approved institutions can submit online applications via the AICTE-ATAL Portal: aicte-india.org/atal. The VAANI scheme application portal will be activated on March 25, 2025. The last date to fill out the AICTE-VAANI scheme application form is April 24, 2025. Selection will be based on AICTE’s criteria, ensuring quality and relevance in hosting conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Important Highlights of AICTE-VAANI 2025

  • Financial Support: AICTE will fund 200 conferences annually, providing INR 2 lakh per event, with a total allocation of INR 4 crore.
  • Event Duration: Each conference must be held over 2 to 3 days.
  • Languages Covered: Expanded to 22 regional languages, including Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
  • Focus Areas: Encompasses 16 emerging fields in technical education, including Quantum Technology, Hydrogen Energy, Space and Defense, AI & Data Science, Agrotech & Food Processing, Cybersecurity, and more.

In his address, Prof. Sitharam emphasized that the AICTE-VAANI scheme aims to build a strong knowledge ecosystem in regional languages, making cutting-edge technological advancements more accessible. By encouraging research publications in regional languages, the initiative seeks to enhance collaboration between academia and industry.

Highlighting the success of the first edition, he announced that AICTE will support 200 conferences this year, each receiving INR 2 lakh in funding. Furthermore, the scope of the scheme has expanded, increasing the number of supported languages from 12 to 22 and broadening the focus areas to 16 emerging fields.

Speaking on the occasion, AICTE Vice Chairman Dr. Abhay Jere underscored the importance of regional languages in education. He emphasized that fostering critical thinking and problem-solving should take precedence, regardless of the language of instruction. Additionally, he proposed developing a comprehensive repository of all conferences to serve as a valuable resource for future research and reference.
