The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Central Water Commission (CWC) India’s technical body for water resources under the Ministry of Jal Shakti have signed an MoU to advance water resources management using cutting-edge technologies such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning. The MoU was signed by Dr. Mukesh Kumar Sinha, Chairman, CWC, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi.

Under the MoU, CWC and IIT Delhi will collaborate across several key areas, including the application of hydro-informatics tools for water resources management, advanced flood management technologies, environmental flow assessment, water quality analysis, design of water infrastructure using modern software, river basin and irrigation management, among others.

The MoU also outlines initiatives such as internship opportunities for IIT Delhi’s UG, PG, and PhD students at CWC headquarters and regional offices; enrolment of CWC officers in PhD programs at IIT Delhi; delivery of specialized modules by CWC officers for IIT Delhi students in identified domains; joint research on mutually agreed topics; and the co-organization of short-term training programs, seminars, and workshops.

Speaking about the MoU, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Sinha, Chairman, CWC, said, “Water is a multidisciplinary sector that requires collaborative efforts among all key stakeholders. This collaboration will open new avenues for innovation, with IIT students engaging in real-world challenges through internships and live projects while CWC benefits from IIT Delhi’s research outcomes. This broad-based MoU will serve as a foundation from which specific areas of future collaboration will emerge."

Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, said, “IIT Delhi is delighted to partner with the Central Water Commission. We believe that research and capacity building in water are essential for creating a sustainable future. Our partnership can help build sustainable interventions and technologies, which help solve our water problems."

Q:   Which college is better for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering: IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay?
A:

The course outline of mechanical in IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay is similar and is quite well aligned with the course structure of top ranked international universities and the mechanical is one of the most desired and demanded branches in the IITs. The universities stand on similar QS ranking level and the facility and quality of infrastructure on average is almost the same in both the campuses, IITB has a lake, a pretty larger campus than that of IITD whereas IITD stands in a very desired location of Delhi ( in Hauz Khas) which stands very close to the international airport and various railway stations and is comparatively very green and clean than the outer Delhi. The trends of placement or students going for further studies differ very less and if you are really relying on placements to be a deciding factor, you'll still be in doubt. If we look at the opening and closing ranks of the department in both the colleges, the mechanical in IITB opens before it starts at IITD and also closes some numbers before, but the range is quite same. Many people choose IITB for its past trend or some local variables and similarly people also choose IITD if they aspire to go for civil services as Delhi is the hub for the preparation for UPSC and other civil services and again the accessibility of the nearby regions. I'd say both of the campus stand on the same level if the department is considered, the selection is totally depend on the individual depending on the local variables that affects him/her.
