The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) have partnered to enhance grassroots governance and advance the localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Led by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as the National Coordinating Institute for UBA, this collaboration aims to create a dynamic synergy between over 15,000 students from 3,822 institutions and Gram Panchayats (GPs).
Together, they will develop and implement Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs) for the 2025โ26 financial year. As part of the Ministry's Sabki Yojana Sabka Vikas initiative, these students will actively contribute to Special Gram Sabhas on October 2, 2024.
This initiative aligns with the โNew Indiaโ (Naya Bharat) vision and reinforces key government programs like "Atmanirbhar Bharat" and "Viksit Bharat," underscoring a commitment to creating a self-reliant and developed nation. The collaboration between UBA and MoPR fosters a symbiotic exchange: students gain firsthand experience with rural governance and a deeper understanding of local challenges, while Panchayats benefit from the professional expertise needed to advance their development goals.
Supporting Gram Panchayats
These students will assist Gram Panchayats through every stage of planning and implementation, offering continuous support and innovative solutions to local challenges. This initiative empowers a new generation of leaders to engage directly in governance, applying their academic knowledge to real-world issues. In doing so, they contribute to a more inclusive and progressive model of rural development.
Through this collaboration, MoPR and UBA seek to establish a sustainable model of grassroots governance that is participatory, inclusive, and innovative. This partnership bridges education and practice, enabling students to move beyond theory and apply their knowledge to real-world governance challenges, ultimately shaping the future of rural India.
This initiative underscores the Ministry of Panchayati Raj's dedication to localizing the SDGs, ensuring that grassroots development is driven by the aspirations of local communities and the innovative solutions of young minds. It reflects the future of governance in India, where the boundaries between classroom and community dissolve, and the nation progresses collectively, fueled by knowledge and innovation.
