IIT Guwahati Signs MoU with Meghalaya Education Department

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Meghalaya's Education Department to pioneer advanced programme aimed at training teachers and students in the state. During a meeting at IIT Guwahati campus, Education Minister Rakkam Sangma, National People’s Party (NPP) leader Himalaya Shangpliang, and IIT-G representatives came together to sign the MoU.

IIT Guwahati has committed to aiding the Meghalaya's Education Department in creating the curriculum and syllabi for subjects like Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. These subjects are set to be integrated into the School Curriculum Framework (SCF) and textbooks, primarily focusing on Science and Mathematics subjects.

Earlier, Education Minister Sangma expresssed the necessity of including these subjects in the curriculum during conversations held in late October with 40 principals from various secondary and higher secondary schools in Shillong.

This collaboration aims to enhance and incorporate these advanced topics into the academic structure to benefit students in these specific disciplines. The programme and its execution will fall under the umbrella of the Centre’s Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

IIT Guwahati tweeted on, β€œ@IITGuwahati signed an MoU with the Govt. of Meghalaya Education Department (SSA) this morning for development & implementation of Programs under SSA including Training of Teachers and Students in experimental learning of Science and Mathematics.”
