The admission process for NITs(National Institutes of Technology) from 2016 is expected to undergo an important change. According to information, the admissions will entirely be based on JEE Main scores from next year. The recommendation to scrap the weightage given to marks obtained in board examinations has been proposed by a government-appointed panel.

JEE Main 2016 results out, check details!

Devang Khakhar, member of the panel and the IIT Bombay Director was quoted saying, "We would be recommending scrapping of weightages given to board marks". However, the final decision on the same might be available early next month when HRD Minister - Smriti Irani would chair a meeting of the NIT council to take a call on the panel's recommendations.

The following factors have been taken into consideration before deciding on the recommendations:

1. Delays in the common counselling process for admission to NITs and NITs.

2. Failed attempt by the CBSE to publish JEE Main rank list for the counselling to be held on time

3. CBSE’s blame on the state boards for delay in the submissions of Class XII marks (Note: Ranks are declared only after giving weightage to Class XIIth marks)

4. The delay in declaring ranks ultimately led to the postponement of admissions to IITs. This caused much anxiety among both - students and parents.

The panel along with recommending the scrapping of the weightage system will also suggest securing 60 percent marks or 70 percentile in Class 12, whichever is lower. The reason behind this the criteria for eligibility of a candidate to appear for the examination conducted for admissions to the premier technical institutes.

Please note that as per the current policy, 40% weightage is given to board marks while 60% is for JEE Main score that leads to admissions to NITs.

Decision not good because lead to corruption. If question paper leak or sold out before conducting JEE (Main & Advanced) exams, not get seat from talented candidates from poor & middle class people.

It's a good decision but it should be implemented with no other conditions because inclusion of any other term would mar the goodness of this late but appropriate policy

A very good proposal as student who qualify tougher JEE mains should not be required for another qualification.
