IIT Placements 2021: International job offers witness dip, salary package reduced due to COVID
COVID-19 blues made placements one of the most challenging tasks. However, IIT Placement 2020-21 has been completed successfully with an average outcome.
IIT Placement 2020-21: The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the economic slowdown has this year severely affected the IIT Placements across the country. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Placement 2020-21 has seen a substantial reduction in international job opportunities. Less than 200 students across the IITs in the country have landed an international placement or overseas job.
COVID-19 pandemic has affected many sectors across the globe. As a result, IIT Placement 2020-21 has seen fewer international offers. Not only the international offers, even the compensation packages offered this year to students at various IITs have also reduced. As compared to the last two years, the reason behind the reduction in international placement offered to the student could also be because of the uncertainty due to the pandemic and fluctuating travel restrictions.
IIT Bombay students this year have managed to grab 58 international placements compared to 159 last year. Whereas, IIT Gandhinagar students did not get any international job offers since the pandemic started in 2020. IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee have also seen a substantial drop in the overseas job offer compared to last year. The highest annual compensation package at IIT Roorkee placement had reduced to Rs. 69.05 lakh per annum from Rs. 153 lakh per annum. International annual compensation at IIT Bombay placement has also reduced compared to the years 2019 and 2020.
IIT Bombay’s placement officer told an English daily that it was challenging to hold the placement during this time of the pandemic. With students located at a different location, it was not easy to hold the whole process online. COVID-19 blues made placements one of the most challenging tasks. However, IIT Placement 2020-21 has been completed successfully with an average outcome.
The institutes hope that business revives soon and placement graphs return to normalcy by the beginning of the next session. Students can visit their respective institute’s official website to get more details on IIT Placement 2020-21.
