In this exclusive interview, Sourish shares his preparation strategy, subject-wise approach, and future aspirations as he now gears up for JEE Advanced to secure a seat at one of India’s premier IITs.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the JEE Main 2025 Session 1 results, with 14 candidates securing a perfect 100 percentile. Among the top scorers is Sourish Srivastav, who achieved an NTA score of 99.99, showcasing his dedication and strategic approach to the exam.

With over 13.11 lakh candidates registering for JEE Main 2025 and 12.58 lakh appearing, competition remained intense. This year, Sai Manogna Guthikonda from Andhra Pradesh was the only female topper, while results of 39 candidates were withheld due to Unfair Means (UFM) practices.

Q. Congratulations on your result! What was your reaction when you saw your score?
Sourish: I felt relieved and satisfied. I had been quite nervous from the day of the exam until the results were announced.

Q. When and how did you decide to pursue B.Tech?
Sourish: I have always had a keen interest in Mathematics since childhood, so choosing B.Tech was a natural decision for me.

Q. Tell us about your family and schooling.
Sourish: I studied at Amity International School, Vasundhara till Class 10 and then moved to Seth Anandram Jaipuria School for Classes 11 and 12. I am deeply grateful to my teachers for their unwavering support and the values they instilled in me. Most importantly, I have been blessed with a supportive family whose encouragement and sacrifices have been my biggest motivation.

Q. When did you start preparing for JEE Main, and what was your strategy?
Sourish: I started preparing specifically for JEE Main in Class 11. My approach was to focus on understanding concepts thoroughly while they were being taught, revising my notes regularly, and practicing problems after mastering the theory.

Q. Which subjects were your strengths and which were challenging for you?
Sourish: Among the three subjects, Chemistry was the most challenging for me. I was more comfortable with Physics and Mathematics, though I faced difficulties in some chapters. To tackle such topics, I revised the theory multiple times and solved additional problems.

Q:   Is the criteria of 75% marks in class 12 applicable in JEE Main 2026?
A:

There is no requirement of 75% marks in class 12 for appearing in JEE Mains 2026. The eligibility criteria of minimum 75% marks in class 12 is required at the time of admission in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. You can apply and appear in JEE Mains 2026 irrespective of your class 12 marks. The detailed JEE Main eligibility criteria 2026 can be checked on the official website. You are further advised to carefully check the detailed eligibility criteria before filling the JEE Main application form 2026. All the best!

Q:   What is Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026?
A:

Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026, also called qualifying percentile for JEE Mains will be announced by the NTA along with the JEE Main 2026 session 2 result. Candidates must note that qualifying percentile for JEE Mains 2026 is the minimum percentile required to appear in JEE Advanced 2026. For admission to NIT or IIITs, there is no provision of qualifying marks in JEE Mains 2026 and admission is given based on All India Rank in JEE Mains exam. NTA will announce JEE Mains 2026 All India rank in April after session 2 exam results.

Q. Which books did you refer to for JEE preparation?
Sourish: For Physics and Mathematics, I relied on my coaching modules, worksheets provided by my mentors, and previous years’ questions. For Chemistry, I strongly recommend focusing on NCERT for JEE Main.

Q. How did you balance JEE preparation with school and board exams?
Sourish: Alongside JEE preparation, I managed school exams by reading NCERT textbooks and ensuring I kept up with the chapters being taught.

Q. What was your exam-taking strategy?
Sourish: During the exam, I first solved the easier questions and then used the remaining time to tackle trickier ones.

Q. How did you unwind during your rigorous preparation journey?
Sourish: To relax, I played cricket and football in my society for about an hour daily. I also spent quality time with my family and occasionally watched comedy TV shows.

Q. What are your plans after completing B.Tech?
Sourish: I haven’t thought much about it yet!

Q. What advice would you give to future JEE Main aspirants?
Sourish: Focus on NCERT textbooks and solve previous years’ JEE Main papers. Consistency in preparation is key.
