Authorities at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla have disciplined 100 students, including nine female students, for various acts of misconduct. Fines ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 were imposed to address issues such as low attendance, violation of university rules, and disruptive behavior, aiming to reinforce campus discipline.

Following a detailed investigation by the university’s disciplinary committee, the penalties were enacted in response to complaints about students breaching hostel regulations, engaging in inappropriate conduct, and failing to meet attendance standards. “The university is dedicated to fostering a disciplined academic environment. These actions were essential to ensure adherence to our regulations and promote a positive campus culture,” a VSSUT spokesperson said.

The fines have sparked varied responses among students. Some expressed concerns about the financial strain caused by the penalties, while others endorsed the university’s stance, emphasizing the need for stricter rule enforcement. “Clear consequences for rule-breaking are necessary to maintain order,” noted an anonymous third-year B.Tech student.

VSSUT has a history of addressing misconduct firmly, with past actions including expulsions and fines for ragging incidents in 2018 and 2019. The recent measures reflect the university’s commitment to upholding its academic standards and reputation. The administration has warned that further violations could lead to harsher consequences, such as suspension or expulsion.

As VSSUT continues to expand its infrastructure and student body, maintaining discipline remains a key focus to support its mission as a leading technical education hub.
