There are 186 medical, 63, dental, 88 Pharmacy, 40 AYUSH, and 200 nursing colleges in Karnataka.

The Karnataka state government reopened over 500 Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, AYUSH, and nursing colleges across the state after remaining shut for more than 8 months since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak followed by the nationwide lockdown imposed in order to contain the deadly virus. Medical Education Directorate officials told that all the state-run and private medical, Paramedical colleges including dental, nursing, and Ayurvedic colleges reopened classes across the state by following the guidelines of the Union Health Ministry ensuring the safety of the students and faculty members.

Considering the ongoing pandemic situation, Karnataka directed colleges to follow safety guidelines strictly by making students wear masks, sanitizing hands, and maintaining social distancing. There are 186 medical, 63, dental, 88 Pharmacy, 40 AYUSH, and 200 nursing colleges in Karnataka, most of which are attached to state-run and private hospitals affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The state also mentioned that the online classes will continue for the students who are unable to attend college for any reason. Officials have also stated that labs and operation theatres will operate according to the guidelines.

The educational institutes are also advised not to conduct conferences, seminars, workshops, and interviews until further notice in order to avoid large gatherings and crowding in closed environments. Colleges are advised to post only final year undergraduate students and postgraduate interns to work at COVID-19 designated hospitals. Junior students have also been advised to stay away from the high-risk areas and hospitals where COVID-19 patients are under treatment. Colleges have also been asked to screen students and faculty members with thermal scanners and disinfect classes and clinics before opening and after closing them for the day.
