NMIMS Competency Test and Personal Interview Experience from Past Qualifiers

SVKMs NMIMS will conduct the second stage of MBA admission process 2026, that is Competency Assessment and Personal Interview (CAPI), starting tomorrow, January 31. Candidates have been shortlisted based on their NMAT scores for the CAPI process at NMIMS Mumbai campus. Competency Assessment will be the deciding factor for NMIMS admissions as it now holds 60 per cent weightage in the final merit list preparation. Based on experience of NMAT qualifiers from the past year, here is a breakdown of what can be expected and how the NMIMS CAPI process will be conducted.Β

NMIMS Stage 2 Admission Process Overview

The CAPI process is conducted in a single day for each candidate. All candidates have to appear for CAPI process at NMIMS Mumbai campus. After arriving, candidates need to deposit mobile phones and bags in a designated area. NMIMS officials complete the identity verification using the interview call letter and valid ID proof. Candidates are then moved in groups to the designated area for CA and PI process.

NMIMS Competency Assessment Pattern

NMIMS Competency Test 2026 is expected to have 30 MCQs to be solved within a 45-minute time duration. Check the sectional breakdown for the NMIMS competency test below:

  • Verbal Ability with 10 Questions
  • Mental Ability with 8 Questions
  • Managerial Ability with 6 Questions
  • Quantitative Ability with 6 Questions

Candidates from previous sessions indicated the test difficulty as "easy to moderate," with some completing the 45-minute test in under 30 minutes. However, several candidates found the NMIMS competency test to be difficult.

NMIMS AI-Assisted Personal Interview

In the previous admission cycle, candidates had to face AI-assisted interviews followed by an interaction with a panel. Personal Interview during NMIMS admissions were completed within 12 to 20 minutes.Β

  • AI Interaction:Β Based on the SOP and resume, the AI bot frames questions. Everything a candidate speaks is transcribed on the screen. Candidates are allowed to briefly edit their answer before the final submission.
  • Panel Role:Β AI does not ask follow-up questions after the candidate. The PI process is driven by panel members who ask followup questions based on AI prompts or the candidate's profile.

The common theme of questions in the NMIMS Personal Interview is based on past work experiences for non-freshers. For freshers, the panel follows questions around 'Why MBA?', recent geopolitical or technological events. Panel may also ask questions related to specific hobbies mentioned in the SOP. Candidates appearing for the interviews must go through the events including US tarrifs, geopolitical economic war, and hidden motive around US trying to dominate the global economy.

Candidates appearing for the NMIMS CAPI process must carry call letter, ID proof, and a pen. Cabdudares are advised to review their SOP as AI assisted questions are based on the SOP submitted during the slot booking process.
