Medical aspirants in Bihar are likely to get relief soon as state government is planning to increase MBBS seats across all government medical colleges. As per reports, each medical college in Bihar is likely to add 30 additional MBBS seats, which will raise overall intake capacity for NEET UG admissions.

Bihar Health Department has asked principals of all government medical colleges to start the process for enhancing seat capacity. Colleges have been asked to submit proposals for the increase through the National Medical Commission (NMC) seat expansion portal, following prescribed norms and timelines, as reported by Live Hindustan.

If approvals are granted, several medical colleges that currently admit 120 students annually will see their intake increasing to 150 MBBS seats. This increase include seats in Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (Muzaffarpur), Anugrah Narayan Medical College (Gaya), Government Medical College Bettiah, Bhagalpur Medical College and Bhagwan Mahavir Medical College, Pawapuri.

AIIMS Patna and Purnea Medical College are also expected to witness an increase in their sanctioned strength.

To facilitate the expansion, the state health department has assured support in addressing infrastructure and faculty-related gaps. Colleges have been advised to ensure the availability of required teaching staff, laboratories, and technical personnel as per NMC guidelines to avoid any hurdles during inspections.
