With a cumulative grade point average of 3.65, Mumbai University has become the best-rated public university in the state.

Mumbai University has finally got accredited with a NAAC A++ rating. Mumbai University's National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grade got expired four years back. With a cumulative grade point average of 3.65, Mumbai University has become the best-rated public university in the state. Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has been rated A+ with a CGPA of 3.6 in 2017 and Kolhapur’s Shivaji University recently bagged A++ rating with 3.52 CGPA in the state. MU improved its rating from 3.05 CGPA and an ‘A’ grade which was awarded by NAAC in 2012.

The news was confirmed by University's registrar Baliram Gaikwad. Senate member Pradeep Sawant appreciated the efforts put in by the university’s officials. The administration had worked vigorously on compiling academic data over the last three years for the self-study report (SSR) and was awaiting the NAAC peer team’s visit for inspection. The NAAC team has begun visiting the campus on August 24. The team assessed the university on seven parameters, ranging from teaching and learning, infrastructure, governance and curricular aspects.

It must be noted that the team visit was delayed twice earlier due to the second wave of the pandemic after the university submitted the SSR in 2020. A NAAC A++ rating will help lift the university’s overall image among prospective and current students, parents and even employers.
