UPSC has started this facility for the candidates in 2018 due to the low turnout of the candidates in the IAS prelims exam. Candidates can withdraw their IAS application till 6 PM today. Seven days period was provided to the candidates to withdraw their IAS application and this period is ending today.
This opportunity is not availed by the majority of students due to the reason that the candidates cannot decide whether they will be appearing in the upcoming IAS prelims exam in a time frame of one week. So they do not withdraw their application. The IAS application fee is not a big amount and hence the candidates buy the time to think about the attempt in IAS Exam.
Sometime IAS syllabus is not fully prepared by the candidates and hence they do not feel like to appear in the IAS prelims exam. This is one of the biggest reason that the candidates abstain from appearing in the IAS prelims exam.
We have seen this in the last two IAS prelims exam as the appearing percentage has not increased very much. About fifty per cent of candidates do not appear in the IAS prelims exam because of the limited attempts provided to them. Even on appearing in a single paper of the IAS prelims exam, the attempt is counted. So the candidates abstain from appearing in the IAS prelims exam at the last moment. The candidates do not feel prepared to give their best shot in the exam.
