Delhi University has allocated around 6,079 supernumerary UG seats for 2025–26 session; 3,263 in CW, 1,091 in ECA, and 1,725 in Sports quotas. These are independent of CSAS rounds; results released August 15 on DU’s CSAS UG portal.
The University of Delhi (DU) has announced the allocation of 6,079 supernumerary undergraduate seats for the 2025–26 academic session. The allotments include 3,263 seats under the Children/Wards of University Employees (CW) quota, 1,091 seats under the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota, and 1,725 seats under the Sports quota.
The university has clarified that these allocations are being carried out independently of the regular CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) admission rounds, and therefore will not affect the status of any candidate provisionally allocated or withdrawn in previous rounds. The results were released today, August 15, and can be accessed via the CSAS UG portal.
Independent Allocation Process
Delhi University's supernumerary admissions are processed through separate rounds with their own merit lists and evaluation methods. For the ECA quota, selection is based on a 75:25 weightage ratio — 75% for CUET-UG scores and 25% for performance in ECA trials or certificate assessments. Sports quota admissions follow a similar structure, with trials happening at different venues to select candidates for determining merit. The CW quota, on the other hand, is reserved for children and wards of university employees, including teaching and non-teaching staff.
DU’s Supernumerary Quotas
DU operates 10 categories of supernumerary seats to promote inclusivity and access. In addition to CW, ECA, and Sports, these categories cover applicants such as orphans, single girl children, differently-abled students, and children/widows of armed forces personnel. These seats are over and above the university’s regular seat matrix and do not reduce the number of general admission seats.
High Demand for ECA and Sports Quotas
According to earlier university data, the ECA quota received over 9,000 applications for just around 1,374 seats this year, with performing arts, theatre, dance, and quiz categories seeing the highest competition. The sports quota also drew strong interest, with candidates competing across disciplines ranging from athletics to team sports, reflecting DU’s long-standing tradition of encouraging holistic student development.
Admission Deadlines
Candidates allotted seats in these categories must accept their allocation by the deadlines mentioned on the DU portal. This includes document verification at the allotted college and payment of admission fees. "Failure to complete these steps within the stipulated timeline will result in forfeiture of the seat," reads a statement issued by DU.
Part of DU’s Larger Admission Reforms
This year’s UG admissions at DU have been seen several reforms, including a new tiebreaker system using Class 10 board marks for applicants with identical CUET scores, the launch of new courses, and an expansion of certain quotas to postgraduate programmes. As of now, over 80,000 students have already accepted seats across various categories in the ongoing UG admission rounds.
DU officials reiterated that the supernumerary quota allocations are designed to give talented students from diverse backgrounds a fair opportunity to study at one of India’s most prestigious universities, without being constrained by the main admission cut-offs.
