Ashoka University Student Wins Gold at Para Swimming Nationals

Roshni Patra, a UG first-year psychology student at Ashoka University, received a gold medal in the 23rd National Para Swimming Championship under the 50-metre freestyle category. The event was held on March 20, 2024, where Roshni represented Maharashtra State at the competition.

Roshni Patra is an active athlete with visual impairment. Till the third grade, she had low vision but she was able to read large fonts. However, her vision deteriorated with age. Though her condition was diagnosed after birth, but this does not stop her from achieving her goals. 

Talking about her achievements, Roshni said "Swimming is difficult for the visually challenged person at times. There is a possibility that one might hit their head on the pool walls. Initially, I was afraid but my motivation began in 2017 when I started intensive training and physical fitness."

Ashoka University has a student life office to keep encouraging students in academic growth and participating in extracurricular activities. The student life office drives the extra-curricular engagements and the student development programmes of the university which range from creative and performative arts, leadership and training opportunities, experiential learning, volunteering opportunities, driving student-led programmes and much more. By guiding and encouraging student organisations, clubs, initiatives and events, the office promotes maximum student participation and involvement in campus life. 

As of now, Roshni holds several achievements including eight gold medals at the national championship conducted so far. 

“Roshni’s victory motivates us and sets a good example for us. She practised all day despite having several obstacles. Her accomplishments are not surprising to those who know her personally,” her coach Kiran Pathak said.

The Ashoka University's Vice Chancellor, Somak Raychaudhury, congratulated Roshni and mentioned her other talents such as chess, singing and voice artist. 

“We are filled with extreme pride with Roshni's achievements. Apart from being an excellent swimmer, she also has other talents like playing chess, singing, and composing. Her journey is a motivation to us. At Ashoka University, we make sure to offer all students with equal opportunity and the correct platform to maximize their potential, and Roshni represents the best of us.” The Vice-Chancellor added.

In the QS Southern Asia Rankings 2024, the university holds the #73 rank, showing a decline of 9 places. However, the university has earned a reputated position on the global stage.

Yes, Ashoka University also levies one-time admission and security deposits in BSc total fees 2025. It generally rounds upto to INR 1.1 lakh. These are payable at the time of admission and are in addition to recurring examination form expenses etc.

BSc students opting for hostel facilities should budget between INR 9.29 lakh. The amount depends on the type of residence or facilities provided etc. Accomodation charges includes a big part of the total fee structure.
