Sure, you can. I am an aerospace engineer by education who has very strong software development skills and develops algorithms for my current job at Raytheon. For my particular role in my particular missile programme, I develop software for simulations, control algorithms for the missile, data analysis software, and various other tools that can help with all of this stuff such as scripts to generate documentation or automate chains of tasks. For me being in this role, I enjoy the fact I can still have fun with algorithm design when considering things like the proper data structures to utilize and whatnot, but then I personally also enjoy applying computational mathematics topics into some elegant algorithms that arena't just efficient, but they give robust and useful results numerically. It can be an exciting job that has a large variation of work to do and a pretty large amount of freedom in how you approach the problems. At my company, I think the people with a Software Engineer title don't tend to do the really hard computational algorithm developments here but instead focus on really large-scale software projects (whatever that might be). Can't tell you exactly how that role is, but obviously in my role all I do is software so it goes to show where you can head with those skills. Software engineering is highly demanding field in all industries as well as aerospace field. Industries need software engineers who have experience in programming languages like C+, Python, matlab, VBA, DOORS in order to develop interfaces and designs software programs, systems, navigation, documentation and maintenance manuals and flight software testing. Aerospace engineers don't really have strong programming knowledge apart from doing projects on MATLAB/SIMULINK, and Fortran for aerodynamics.

All government & private aviation organizations and aircraft & spacecraft manufacturing and testing units generally require the trained candidates. After the completion of degree in aeronautical engineering you are eligible for not only in design & production of aircraft and spacecraft but also in turbine, high-speed trains (bullet trains), flying gadgets and turbine production & design.
