Candidates who are holders of a Diploma in Marine /Mechanical Engineering with minimum 60% marks are eligible to apply for admission into the 2nd year of B.Tech through lateral entry. Candidates who possess Bachelors degree in any discipline with minimum 50% marks are eligible to apply for the MBA course at IMU. Seats to all the courses will be allotted purely based on the scores obtained in an online Common Entrance Test.

There is no specific CAT cutoff for DMS IIT Madras. The selection process consists the followings.
1. Shortlisting Process : COMPOSITE SCORE will be calculated with due weights to :-
a) CAT score
b) Past academic performance,
c) Work experience
d) Academic Diversity
e) Gender
2. Final selection : Candidates from all categories shortlisted based on the composite score shall be called for a Written Ability Test(WAT) and Personal Interview(PI) to a given location. The final selection will be based on the following with due weights to each of the components:
f) Written Ability Test
g) Personal interview
h) Composite score
i) Other Achievements
